Game crashes after start

Hi guys,

zero K worked fine in the past. But now it crashes shortly after start, often before i can choose a commander. I have already tried to reinstall zero k several times.

In the Lobby under settings under the diagnostic_log i always get the message:

08.09.2013 14:37:48: Failed to load resource selectkeys0 :System.ArgumentNullException: Array cannot be null.
Parameter name: bytes
at System.Text.Encoding.GetString(Byte[] bytes)
at ZeroKLobby.EngineConfigurator.ReadResourceString(String uri)

Does anyone know how to get zero k running again? are additional infos needed?

Thanks in advance!

Please redownload the zero-k lobby. Are you using linux or windows?

I use windows 7 and have redownloaded the lobby.

There seems to be a problem directly at start. Here the diagnostic_log:

08.09.2013 18:26:43: Unable to deserialize map Maptest34 from the server: System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.
at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadDataInternal(Uri address, WebRequest& request)
at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadData(Uri address)
at System.Net.WebClient.DownloadData(String address)
at PlasmaShared.MetaDataCache.GetMap(String mapName, MapCallback callback, Action`1 errorCallback, String springVersion)

and unfortunately it still dosen't work. The same error message as previously occurs.

I have a feeling that this is a localization problem...

Oh wait.. its not zero-k lobby problem actually.. this is harmless...

Please try this:

set details to "minimal"
enable "safe mode" in settings

When it crashes please in settings click "open game data folder" and post us link to infolog.txt

(You can paste its content to http://pastebin.com/ )
Thank you..

Most likely culprit - video card/drivers.

Yeah

[f=0001181] Error: This stack trace indicates a problem with your graphic card driver. Please try upgrading or downgrading it. Specifically recommended is the latest driver, and one that is as old as your graphic card. Make sure to use a driver removal utility, before installing other drivers.

Please check your video drivers, if you changed them recently try previous version. If not try newer one. If you have other applications running while starting ZK try disabling them.
Also try enabling or disabling windowed/fullscreen mode (depending on what you have now).

If it still crashes please check your hardware, maybe fan on the video card stopped working or the RAM there is broken.

I now have installed the newest driver. The error message didn't changed and it still crashes.

Maybe some additional backround, the first time zero k crashed was when I attend to a non official game in the zero k lobby. I thought through the reinstallation all connected problems herewith should be away. But the HUD map on the upper left looks like from another game (different then before or when i start from the spring lobby). If you tell me how i can post a screenshot here.

The communication with the server looks faulty. On the ingame chat window the message "connection attempt-packet too short" occurs at start and a lot of text is displayed when i build a factory.

That's normal.

Any chance of showing that? That's not present in the infolog you posted before.

I just have tried to reproduce it but the game crashed before i was able to build anything.

I have made a screenshot before but i don't know how to include a picture here.

the text is mainly "!transmitlobby @voice@buildUnit@add;armpw;Glaive" and similar for other units from the the cloaky bot factory

Oh ok, that actually is in the infolog, nevermind. I was expecting some stacktraces or the like...

It worked until i attend to other games in the lobby (evo, BA chicken defense, etc.). The HUD panels are shifted or look like in one of these games. But i would assume that after the new installation of zero k this cannot affect the current state.

Maybe there was a small change in zero k(v1.1.9.8)? I guess my laptop's graphic abilities were already on the edge with minimal settings (but worked fine for weeks, since i installed zero k)and a little bit more was maybe to much.

DErankfw206 it is 99% certainty the crash is caused by graphic settings changes. Try "minimal" setting again (this time don't enable Safemode)

Also ingame go to Settings->Graphic turn OFF any possible graphic feature or set them all to LOW.

If game work before, then its up to you to find out what changes between then and now.

looks like ingame the lua UI is gone. press enter to type to chat the following:

/reload
or /reload luaui

default controls should come back then (minimap too)

Intel(R) HD Graphics

intel and ati cause problems from time to time, strongly dependent on driver versions. i see from infolog that you have "ATI hacks" option enabled. try to toggle it (in some cfg file, assumably springsettings.cfg??, you can get there from zk-lobby->settings. set it to 0). but most stability issues boiled down to the wrong driver versions. some are fail, some work good. but as im not experienced with intel/ATI, i summon the intel experts!

also there are several topics here in the forum about graphics issues with intel and/or ati.

Thanks to all,

it seems to be stable now (at least the last half hour no crash). I will further test it tommorow. I have set every graphic detail to minimum ingame but I guess it was the ATI hacks = 0, which solved the problem. At least the look was the old one after I sat it to zero.

My friend Dan, in whom I have never managed to sustain more than a days interest in the game, has his game crash about half the time, and usually at startup.

I asked him to post a log, but he was too frustrated with troubleshooting (a busman's holiday, perhaps) and gave up.
