Model sizes of expensive units

Would be interesting to get some discussion here about what people think about the current scale of units.

I lined up some of the expensive units of different factories:

What strikes me here is that unit sizes on on this image make perfect sense. Goliath is smaller than sumo or grizzly, because it's so bunkered up - it's probably much denser. Sumo needs to be able to jump and grizzly needs to be able to float. Pene needs to hover and is just generally squishy. So everything seems to check out.

Now some striders:

Does anybody else feel like the bantha is just a tad too small? Volume wise, it looks smaller than the funnelweb and in a somewhat similar size to the scorpion. Meanwhile it is much more expensive and has a lot more hitpoints. It isn't even nearly 2x taller than the zeus. Also, the size difference with detri is quite substantial.

What do you guys think?

I think Bantha's size is OTA stuff. What annoys me the most is Jack's size, it could be a tad bigger.

Also BD's are fucking huge=) But Bantha indeed looks like a squishy sucky shit, which it is not.

The Crabe should be twice as big. So should the Goliath.
Bantha, Dante, Catapult, and Scorpion should be bigger. Funnelweb is fine because it is so bulky and recognizable. Reapers don't look big enough compared to Ravagers and Levelers, which could also be bigger.

My aim with these suggestions is making expensive stuff bigger and battles more "cool" that way. Everyone spots a Sumo arriving on the battlefield, but Goliaths are just a slightly bigger tank. I regularly miss Banthas because they are so small.

Nice point with the bantha. Others dimensions are fine to me, and for the bigger tank..... we talked about a strider tank some time ago.

Look more at the top down size of the unit.

Size is an issue for pathing. So making bigger golly will nerf the shit out of it. In tht case BRING BACK THE FLAMETHROWER!

it would be nice to increase size of units for contrast.

bigger model would also be a good way to balance against the mobility of ravager, reaper, golly

Do you know Fat-Boy from Supreme Commander?
I want to know if you think small units are just to big or the maps too small/rough.

Are unit sizes balanced by diameter*height instead of area*height?

Goliath model should be bigger and it should FLATTEN THE TERRAIN as it goes.

Dirtbags my ass.

The problem with a bigger goliath is that it would probably require a rebalance in stats to make it feel right.

The current goliath has 1.76x times more HP than the reaper. Meaning, assuming same density, the goliath should be on average 1.2x longer, wider and taller. That seems to be similar to the current differences in size. Assuming the goliath is made of stronger and heavier materials, the difference should be even smaller than 1.2x. If its dimensions would be increased a lot, current HP pool would be disproportionally low for it and it would feel plasticy - every time you would use it, it would lose HP faster than its dimensions would indicate.

However, I really like the idea of a strider tank. Something bigger than the goliath. There are definitely problems with the concept and it has been discussed before, but if there are enough people supporting the idea and somebody with the artistic skills and willpower to make a proper model for it, I don't see why it shouldn't be discussed/tried. Anyway, that's a topic for another thread.

I fear, even bigger units lead to 100% hit chances for arty.

After a rebalance (to fix this issue) we will need anni with same footprint as starlight or arty would miss def structures.

what arty do you refer to?

given than these units tend to counter skirmishers due to their 400+ range, having them countered by artillery instead sounds workable.

but then we can remove skirms...

Hammer will be the new skirm, Tremor the real arty, etc.
