I get a black screen and a busy mouse for a few minutes. Eventually I have to just let it die with the windows "not responding" dialog. Never see a line of text or the startup background. Worked last time I tried like a month ago, on one of the new engine builds. No idea what's changed. infolog: http://pastebin.com/Fj1wUZcR

Nevermind. Reboot fixed it. It healed. edit: it un-healed. Looks like it happens after I play any other game that isn't Zero-K, I think. Maybe. If so, the obvious solution is to never play any other games.

Do you play on linux or windows? I advise removing ZK and Spring entirely, and reinstalling both. Save the maps folder on your desktop to avoid redownloading!

My Spring.exe sometimes goes black after the loading screen too. A simple tab-out and tabbing-back-it solves the issue though.

I have sething similar happening: spring just gives a black screen, no loading screen. When I click, a windows dialog says it is not responding, I end the process, rejoin the game with zkl, and spring loads properly. I will see tonight if I can find an infolog, together with system specs.

There is certainly something like deadlock happening on the 98+ engine.

If you start a new version of spring for the first time while having over nine thousand archives, and your lobby does not run unitsync before you do that, the new archive cache will be generated, and the process will take time proportional to the number of archives you have. Maybe Spring should at least display loadscreen during this process.

I had this happening multiple times with the same engine iirc.

Interesting. I haven't encountered this yet, so it's possible it happens to a subset of people / os / hardware.

Pxtl is this with ZKL? Your settings are weird and why were you running Spring 98.0.1-398-g80e6cfa develop?

GoogleFrog - I have no idae why it picked that particular version. I had the problem first when joining the teamgames server, but it was occurring when running missions, so I picked a mission at random to tinker - I think it was Tutorial 2. Likewise, I have no idea why my settings would be weird, this machine is pretty close to a clean install. I just wiped it down and loaded win8 on it and a fresh SSD a couple of months ago. I don't tweak much in Spring/ZK settings. edit: yes, I always launch through ZKL. The only really odd part of my config was that I had to manually copy the ZK lobby into the My Games folder because the auto-copy-install-thing failed.

GoogleFrog ZKL use 398 for mission, but we could change to 451 in next ZKL update. Pxtl Spring re-scan all mods everyday, once per day. So it always freeze once when we play Spring next morning. Only a tiny freeze, not as much as the following: Most terrible freeze is when we first-time run a new Spring version. This will take up to 5 minute if you have lots of mods and map. This only happen once per lifetime. Don't end Spring when this happen, let it finish at least once, or it'll keep happening again and again.

Okay, I've narrowed it down: Everythign works fine if I delete "C:\Users\Martin\Documents\My Games\Spring\cache\98dev-develop" before I start playing. Otherwise, it freezes. Spring and ZK seem to have trouble with my Documents folder, I had to copy Zero-k.exe manually into the folder because the setup/copy operation failed. My machine is pretty much a brand-new fresh Windows 8 install, so it's very concerning - this could happen to a lot of users.

Now that you can reproduce the crash can you try it with the latest engine version?

Is 451 the latest? Because that's where I reproduced it. edit: infolog http://pastebin.com/U46bQKgp

Tx. How do I tell zklobby/springie to host w latest?

Just joining bleeding edge host should actually be sufficient.
