Typing in Chat Crashes Lobby

My lobby opens and appears normal until I type anything into the chatbar of any chatroom (battle, Zero-k, Clan chat). The lobby immediatly stops responding and has to be closed. I tried using the local data reset tool in the settings menu but that did not fix the problem. This is a very large issue for me and I hope someone can help. If there is any more info I can add to help diagnose the problem, let me know.

Does that happen for other input fields like the url bar just below the navigation buttons, the game filter in the MULTIPLAYER tab, the player search bar at the top right corner in the CHAT tab, or the video resolution in SETTINGS?

Does it happen for the Battle name and Password input fields that pop up when you "Open a new battle."?

Does it happen when you copy paste text?

Does it happen when you toggle tick boxes in the MULTIPLAYER tab?

I am able to type in all of those fields you listed. I can also paste text into regular game chat.

Kshatriya has right.
Yesterday before i installed Linux, in WIndows Version the ZKL is always crashed as you klick on some Key of your Keyboard.

Post ZeroKLobbyErrors.txt, post what OS etc..
Wait if it unfreezes after some minutes like in https://github.com/ZeroK-RTS/Zero-K-Infrastructure/issues/568

I completely deleted all spring and ZKL files from my computer to get a fresh install, but the issue persists.

Can you try without running steam?
Do you have steam friends?

I have the same problem, I had not updated the lobby before it started occuring, and I played like yesterday w/o any issue.

I am not launching ZKL from steam. Win 7 here.

Pasting the error report here causes another brower error lol

Paste it via pastebin then, duh. The forum error you get is probably because of special symbols that the forum does not allow.

Except that it should.

Giving really nasty looking incomprehensible error reports whenever a user types in something between greater than, less than signs or that contains ampersands with some characters next to them is a sign of product immaturity.

I know, because my real name has a quote (apostrophe) in it and you would not believe the endless hassles I get in RL because people do not understand the concept of SQL quoting user input that goes straight into an SQL database.

(The actual error we get from the forum in that case is something that looks suspiciously like a hack from microsoft to prevent entering something that looks like HTML or XML into the database, probably for the best of reasons, like protecting viewers of said data from HTML or XML injection).

That forum problem is entirely fixable, its just that ZK devs doesn't have enough manpower to fix all the prototypes that went into production and that they do not have the inclination to fix prototypes, as making new prototypes is more fun and ZK is only a hobby.

The deployed prototype then sits on the production server until a new contributor hopefully comes forward (a rare occurrence), with ZK team having the strange expectation that new contributors do not have the same attraction for fun and novelty.

Sadly, as long as the prototype is running on the only server this community has, it has a bad effect on its users. Though it mostly affects new players who already have problems and try to post infologs... combo! The veteran players are not bothered that much, as they already know they must double-check what they enter on the site.

Now we see that it is impossible to use ZK forum to discuss/help newbies without relying on an external service such as pastebin or dropbox. That's quite different from original promises made about having a custom forum implementation.

The whole idea of a prototype is to learn from it (that is: to figure out what it was that you really wanted) and then throw it away, unless the prototype turns out to be so good and useful that some refactoring and clean up for maintainability and maybe some UI improvement is sufficient for production code. Then again, you'd still have to write the test battery, even for a prototype moved to production.

And while I would be more than happy to fix it myself, my C# and ASP.NET is waaay too rusty to be of any use here even if I had the tools available.

Exactly.

With an added twist in ZK project, where some people are allowed to impart their learning prototypes onto the community and then ask for help to actually make the deployed prototype production ready.

Of course it doesn't work.

That's the case for a lot of people. Despite this lack of maintainers problem, project lead insist on (re-)implementing most stuff in .NET and then lament how nobody is helping to fix bugs. Situation is not improving.
