I am opening a new 2v2 tournament with the cooperation of PLrankOrfelius RUrankParzival CArankAdminShadowfury333

Tournament rule.

Result
Supreme Champion: FIranksprang + UArankdahn
Worthy Adversary: GBrankAdminDeinFreund + CArankballofdoom
Maybe Next Time: PLrankAdminSprung + ATrankhokomoko
4th place: USrankKshatriya + AUrankAveragePlan

2v2 tournament was held on Saturday 2th April 2016 at 10AM UTC.

Swiss match to determine top 4 teams. Swiss starts with a random match-up, then players with similar scores play against each other. Depending on the number of players, it could be 3-6 rounds. Each match is on a random map in the map pool.

Semifinal game is best of 3 matches and the final game is best of 5 matches. The first map is a random map in the map pool, then the defeated team chooses a map from the map pool. 3rd and 4th place match will be direct elimination.

Tie breaker will be through an online coin toss.

Match Rules:

Each Swiss match will last 25 min or 1 team resign whichever come first. At the 25th min, which team have twice the opponent units in metal win [in building units don't count, nuke in silo don't count, metal count base on spec widget (unless someone make a better widget)]. If no team had this advantage, the game continues for another 5 mins, in which time whoever get the twice units winning condition win. If at the half hour mark, none has the advantage, it's a draw.

The direct elimination, semi-final and final match have a time limit of 30 min [with 5 mins extra]. Similar rules as above.

Match behaviour:

To foster a sense of sportsmanship [As requested by certain Devs], we ask that each official game start with both teams say a polite greeting to acknowledge a fight between equal.

[ The same system happen in all sport/game match e.g. MMA fight have opponents touch gloves before fight, taekwondo Olympic match have opponents shake hand before match, Shogi have opponents bow to each other before each match,…]

No name calling or disruptive behavior is allowed in the match. The team that violated this rule, forfeit the match.

The teams, that are 10 minutes late or no-show, forfeit the match.
Post game analysis and congratulation are encouraged but not required.

Win or lost decision will be what both teams agree on.

If any member of any teams in the match disagrees, the decision will be on the Arbitrator.
Match replay link should be recorded for future complaints.

Note

Since this tournament introduces a new format, participants are encouraged to exploit the time limit to their advantage.
Overpowered strategies [i.e.wubrrior drop] are also tolerated. This is to encourage players to find counters to these tactics.
If these tactics are uncounterable, this will send a strong signal to the Devs to re-balance.

Since this is the first time I ever hold a tournament, there will be mistakes and change of rules. I hope everyone can tolerate my lack of experience and willing to give me feedback so I can improve for the next one.

I was planning to cast this, so I'm probably only going to be able to serve as backup arbitrator.

Will the winners get iron crosses as rewards instead of cups?

Why such strict artificial time limits and win conditions?

quote:
Swiss match to determine top 4 teams. Swiss starts with a random match-up, then players with similar scores play against each other. Depending on the number of players, it could be 3-6 rounds.

With this system it could also just be 1-2 rounds.

WTF? What if a team of top10 players gets to play against some random nubs? Should any of them really lie and pretend the "fight is equal"?

quote:
No disruptive behavior is allowed in the match

WTF? What if somebody needs to answer the door or visit the toilet? Just don't pause and ruin the game because of a inconsiderate rule?

quote:
Win or lost decision will be what both teams agree on.

What does this mean?

There was complaints about matches being too long and exhausting. It also facilitates better organization by putting a lid on the tournament's duration.

equal as in we are both human beings who have feeling and hopes and dreams, etc... a simple greeting would do.

I was thinking more along the line of name calling, swearing, spamming and generally being obnoxious. I am sure we can pause the game for players with justifiable needs.

It means that in the event that all members of both teams agree on something, they can overrule matches' outcome. It aims to promote autonomy and sportsmanlike behavior [i.e. a player on team A got disconnect by accident. Team B won the match but may choose to forfeit or call a draw, which we will accept]. Mind, even if one player disagrees, the arbitrator would step in and decide.I don't think it would be used much

I'd poke my head in here to say that Best of 5 is very exhausting. Finals are exciting and all, but why not stick to best of 3?

the new match system should limit the matches count and match time to prevent exhaustion. But I am open to the best of 3 suggestion should both teams on the final also agree.

I'd suggest Bo3 double elimination for the bracket stage (with Bo1 for the non-Loser's Finals Loser's bracket match). That way you get Bo3 finals if the teams are lopsided, and something close to Bo5 if it will be an exciting and even match, at the cost of one extra match (Loser's Prefinals).

Thanks to AUrankSortale for posting this.

Also in most tournaments that I go to (MTG, etc.) your not even allowed to get up from the table at the match, or you forfeit. Thank god Zk has a pause button.

I'll also attempt to stream this, but idk how good my upload will be.

I would also need a Partner, but why at 10 am?

why not 8 pm or so?

Tournaments last for hours. If it started at 8PM you'd be up until midnight at the earliest, and anyone going on to brackets would be up until 2 or 3 in the morning. I'll grant that people in North America (i.e. me) will have to get up early, but why would you ask to stay up super late?

the next day is sunday so who cares being up at 3am or so.
But 10am isnt a very good time. Also people all will go to eat at 12 or so.

Even 4 pm would be bether

People haven't usually gone to eat at 12 in previous tournaments. Is this specifically a question of your own personal habits, or French custom? Most European players have been in the UK, Germany, and Poland (with representation from Sweden, Austria, and Estonia, among a couple others), so if it's specifically a French thing that would explain the discrepancy.

Also, doing it later screws over Australian players, including the organizer.

(Edit: I can't identify tricolors, apparently)
