First FFA on this map?

MXrankmoleculeman88 was a bit of an arse this game, as he ganged up on @Sparkles with seemingly no intention to win. I worry that the layout of the map encourages this type of FFA game.

I think that is a problem with all 3 and 4 ways FFA maps. Logically if you are next to a better player you need to gang up. MXrankmoleculeman88 may have been especially bad since he never attacked me after.

@Sparkles kept complaining, but actually MXrankmoleculeman88 spent most of the time and probably resources harassing me with artillery and napalm missiles, he spent only about a dozen kodachis on @Sparkles 15-20 mins into the game, then @Sparkles spent a large chunk of his army attacking him.

I saw the replay and couldn't figure out how to switch the highlighted team on the graphs. Clicking on units for different teams doesn't work there (it does for the top resource bars only)

Unlike many FFAs this game did not appear to be a massive porculon contest on most fronts. Whether that is a property of the map or the players I don't know.

I don't think AUrankAdminGoogleFrog's assessment is fair.
- Around 13:00 to 15:00 moleculeman88 harassed Sparkles with a handful of Kodachis when Sparkles was ahead.
- Sparkles proceeded to throw away his comfortable position against Jasper by all-inning against moleculeman88's base.
- Sparkles and moleculeman88 then more or less stopped fighting, but did not work together at all against Jasper (which they needed to do to win). Given that moleculeman88 was still rebuilding his base and had no land factory until Sparkles was more or less finished, Sparkles has nobody to blame for this but themselves, although moleculeman88 could potentially have played it better.

Sparkles then threw around a bunch of accusations about moleculeman88 ganging up with Jasper against him. As far as I can see Sparkles is the one who did most of the actual throwing in this game, although moleculeman88's understanding of FFA is clearly also deficient based on his comments and failure to attack Jasper as the game progressed. I don't think raaar and moleculeman88 could have defeated Jasper after Sparkles' demise but it would have been a game at least. It is entirely possible and probable that moleculeman88 would have ganged up on Sparkles more if he had not been all-inned as well.

The smack talk moleculeman88 was throwing around the entire game is not generally how one wins a FFA.

IME, in FFA's both @Sparkles and MXrankmoleculeman88 are implacably aggressive, while PTrankraaar oscillates between building Porculon Prime or being implacably aggressive.

Meanwhile USrankJasper always builds Griz into Paladin and generally plays arch-conservatively.

All in all, outcome is predictable without even having to watch the game :P

Tactical analysis aside, there's a bit of context that's missing from this thread - The fact that this is not the first, second or third time moleculeman has done this routine of knowingly and deliberately singling me out (at his own expense, for his own amusement) - hence my display of frustration. I had basically forgotten his previous harrasment when I started the FFA, and was quickly reminded that it was just the same skewed waste of time again.

Whilst it's easy to ignore the increasing harrasment that comes with a growing ladder rating outside of matches, it's a lot more difficult to deal with when it affects actual gameplay - very specifically in FFAs. This is the place where ladder (and social) karma manifests hard and it can be outright poisonous.

Maybe if Godde can blog about anything, it can be about how to peacefully deal with the portion of the community that treats you with malice for performing well. I personally don't have an answer for that yet as I'm completely new to the phenomenom.

P.s. Aquanim, with regards to your evaluation. Although the replay doesn't show molecule's history of harrasment towards me, it did show him making derogatory comments at the beginning of the match and that he was in that game to attack (or at least taunt) me from the start.

Do ppl get harassed for being high rank outside of the game?
+0 / -0
Yes, on forums/discord/chat - or whatever other orbitting community a game, sport or profession has.

What :O this is not fair people were in A game of FFA that is whoever is capable of defeating 4 opponents wins the game. But here sparkles is exxagerating like this that everyone gangs up on the best player in FFA it's bieng done on godde, on sparkles and on me too. frankly I know that zero-k has A promblem with ghosting with other players telling where the units are in game, how many storages they ahve and when they have nuke. this is A promblem comparing to this. When this happens to me that in FFA happens I don't care becuase it's just A game. two will gang up on u regardless in game becuase it's war and automatically happens.

I only apologize for the start of the game where I provoke my opponents and said it in A funny way which raar answer me knowing I was being funny with -_- face but not sparkles which answer me with F words and had no right to say that to me Geez !

frankly beside the differences here Zero-k can fix this and other which i will give asnwer.

1. punish system in xp in FFA lets the ai measure and see if it's says two players ganging up on one being by their tier and color of thier skin. and reduce the xp that is A fair punshiment. if the A.I. calcualtes and compare all other FFa it will se it will be the same regardless of the persucetion the player says it has will reward with extra xp ;D.

2. the other, me and sparkles won't play FFA anymore becuase she exxagerates too much an outcome and prefarbly avoid sparkles until cool down.

3. I will also add ghosting issue in which the player gives in game that she or he will not ghost and play fair that should be added too ;D by not wearing any microphones.

well, the first thing that comes into my mind that getting rid of the supposedly strongest player in an FFA was the strategy i took as well (greetings to DeinDieter). I don´t think that in itself is malicious.
On the other hand, if one doesn´t know you MXrankmoleculeman88, it´s easy to get you wrong as it´s very hard to diferentiate between irony or seriousness in text-only-communication. And yes, chat-spam CAN be percieved as harassment, or at least annoying. I think you two just had an unfortunate encounter :)

Attacking the strongest player in an FFA is in the interest of every other player because they each gain increased win chances from this - left unchecked and playing fair, the strongest player predictably wins.

Part of the job of this strongest player is to prevent their enemies from allying against them by creating tension between them: for example, proposing unevenly distributed costs of having to fight - e.g. by either simply effectively defending (which incurs cost on whoever attacks, but no cost on the freeriders), or by massively retaliating against a single another player.

These costs, if sufficiently uneven, leaves some of the other players open to being backstabbed, while the strongest player can go crying wolf about those who take the bait and go for the easy target - all the while preparing their ultimate secret weapon.

Of course, if this kind of things works, then you win, and become considered even more dangerous.

This kind of trickery is what makes FFA fun.

ah yes makes me miss being group murdered in the first 4 mins of the games. Group hugs are nice and they are a sign of love, and attraction.

I inferred it from the comments which you both made. Like I said, I suspect that if you had not all-inned him, he would have continued to target you beyond the point where that was reasonable - but in this game you did not give him the opportunity, and then flamed him for it anyway.

What moleculeman appears to be missing and Anarchid has not made sufficiently clear is that "strongest" is conditional not only on player skill but on game state.

If in a 4-way FFA the third- and fourth- most skilled players all-in the most skilled player without giving any thought to the second-most skilled player before the most skilled player is dead, the second-most skilled player will almost invariably win (as happened in this game, more or less).
