I created a widget to better control aircraft since I found myself wanting to specifically deselect aircraft that needed to re-arm but having no option to do that.

To use it:
1. Download the air_rearm_filter.lua file from the github above.
2. Create (or locate) LuaUI folder Zero-K\LuaUI\Widgets and save air_rearm_filter.lua there.
3. Your file tree should look like this Zero-K\LuaUI\Widgets\air_rearm_filter.lua
4. To test it, load up a match up Zero-K and go Settings/Misc/Air Rearm Filter to set a hotkey. Make sure Simple Settings is turned OFF.

Ordering attack move on planes will force them to rearm if they have to, but I am curious.

What can happen a lot with attack move is it will issue the command to planes that are currently re-arming. So instead of a compact swarm of magpies arriving, all of the re-arming planes are left with an attack move that's late and makes them stagger in slowly after the initial attack, usually getting shot down. Also, if you try to select all of your magpies and start issuing move commands, it will cancel the order to return to airpad. If you select all of your magpies and start issuing attack move and move commands intermittently to micro out of AA range, it wreks havoc on your airpad rearming. I imagine most people have all their bombers on a control group number, so there's no clean way to start microing your bombers without disrupting the re-arming happening back at base.

This is why we see air players often waiting for every single bomber to finish re-arming before issuing new attack commands.

This new widget gives an option to just stop issuing commands to the rearming planes by not having them selected.

So attack move somewhere in your base, and all the magpies that need to reload will go to the airpad. The rest will go to a safe spot and you can easily select them.

Yes, that's what people currently have to do. It creates a lot of messy situations. You're still waiting for 100% re-arm instead of sending your bomber group at 90% if you want to avoid errant commands that you need to clean up later. The UI then is preventing the player from making the strategic decision they think is best.

If your pack of 40 magpies is striking a missile silo, and kills it with 20 payloads, do you retreat all 40 to your base to then attack move to start re-arming? If you wantedt the remaining 20 to attack a secondary target before returning to base, and use move commands to micro the position and direction, you're disrupting the re-arming back at base. Also, Without a button to select the "empty" bombers, there's no great way to start microing the return route without disrupting the bombers that are still actively striking a new target.

No, you queue attacks.

You planes should already have a primary target and maybe even a secondary (in case of overkill) before they get anywhere near their target. Otherwise they circle for another pass while you give them commands and they die to AA.

How is a widget that allows you to select bombers that need to rearm helping you with your loaded bombers already flying on top of enemies?

If you want to send your loaded, damaged bombers home just use the resupply command.

I think you need to explore the queue system more.

"How is a widget that allows you to select bombers that need to rearm helping you with your loaded bombers already flying on top of enemies?"

By segregating the orders to loaded and unloaded. If I want my depleted bombers to hug the edge of map to get back to base, and I want my loaded bombers to suddenly switch targets to lances that were just revealed, it's better to have a button to segregate those 2 groups so that their commands don't interfere with one another.

I think we're talking past each other about how selecting loaded or unloaded bombers helps with micro. There's more than one way to accomplish anything in an RTS. The system you're describing sounds cumbersome to my playstyle, but I'm glad you have a system that works for you.
