Lances killed two of my planes this game at what could be pretty meaningful points - there's a phoenix early on and a magpie later.

I still find this happens pretty frequently and if I have lances, which I often do, I will use them to kill enemy planes when I can - particularly stuff like likhos you can see coming.

I don't think this is a good idea - lance is still very strong imo - is it possible to sort of nerf it by reducing the up down aim on the turret to make that harder? Potentially the left/right aim as well. I remember this was done some time ago and significantly improved it, but it's still an issue I think.

I just don't think it's a unit that should really be decent aa - against gunships maybe.
