Chickens Crash Failed to allocate memory

I haven't played Spring in a few years. After recently reinstalling, I'm encountering a crash when playing chickens. I consistently get a wave or two in before the game crashes. I have successfully played through 4 or 5 single player skirmishes against CAI so I'm suspecting the problem that I'm encountering is unique to Chickens. I've experienced crashes with chickens on 4 occasions.

I've abbreviated the log file below, there were ~10000 repeated lines reading something similar to:

When looking at log files for the non-chickens matches, they do not contain these 10000 shader messages. Also, when looking at another recent chickens match, immediately before the memory allocation error, the following is reported. This is missing from the latest log:

And there was at least one more of those. Nobody needs 30,000 fragment shaders!

I can't find that text anywhere in the zk repository, either, so I'm assuming it's an engine issue, esp since that infolog lacks any chobby spam.
