Shut up and take my money (more hats please)

Hi, I've spent way too much money collecting hats in Dota and CS:GO :

https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198336402849/inventory/#570

I (and probably others like me) would like the opportunity to be financially irresponsible for the benefit of ZK as well. I know there are a few but I accidentally unlocked them all and still have 300 "kudos" left over. Notably, there doesn't seem to be any strike commander skins.

Are there any plans to add more commander skins or other types of cosmetics?

I know that one should donate just for the warm fuzzy feeling, and this is what I did initially. But I think a larger selection of hats could lead to donations from other people with this moderately exploitable personality trait.

Maybe you should be the one to test Anarchids lobster skin? :P

AUrankAdminSaktoth recently made a Tiger skin. Personally I think it looks like puke but if somebody wants to buy it I guess it could be made available.

If things go according to plan i'll commit the lobster red chitin and renegade skins for Strike tomorrow. May be a while before they end up released though.

Any other suggestions?

I don't know if this is supported in ZK currently, but SC2 has slightly modified unit models available too. See "Judicator" vs "Purifier" here: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Zealot_(StarCraft_II)#Images

Might be an interesting concept if applied to ZK.

For commander skins I'm personally a fan of White on Black (something like this) http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Institute_paint

A rainbow pallette of colors for each comm would be nice (my favorite being #BADA55 http://www.color-hex.com/color/bada55 )

Going another direction some neat shader particle effects would probably also do well.

Additionally Dota recently released a feature called "dota plus" which among other things will track cool statistics and shows a popup text in game on numerical milestones (e.g. 10,000 multi-hero concoctions here http://navi.gg/upload/pemberton/dotaplus/herolinesrelics.PNG)

And if we're really going crazy, some literal hats might be cool.

Pimped up models would be doable as long as they're just doodads slammed on top of the base model (think golden morty) but having multiple to choose from increases the technical difficulties. The main problem I see here is that the model artist would have to create all possible variants beforehand and merge them in the model file (makes it a pain to work with).

Shader / particle stuff would be great (as long as it doesn't hinder visbility) but this is the colour of mana we seem to lack the most.

Tracking cool statistics sounds like something we'd do for everyone (eg. check out the WHR charts) if it happens.

before making purchasable skins, how about

- improving commander models and animations (walk cycles with more "attitude").
I still feel i'm being trolled by the devs every time i pick the "strike" chassis.

It'd be cool if the models had weapon parts that changed according to which weapon modules are active

- improve balance of commander modules, weapons and chassis

Yeah I guess that's the flaw in a request like this: there's still other more substantial improvements that could be made. And having been a contributer to other open source games I know this sort of thing will sit until someone comes along who is both willing and able to work on it and also sees it as a valuable or interesting use of their time, which is a lot to hope for. Still, I can dream.

Definitely agree on the base model and animation clean up before something like this.

I'd be disappointed if Steam release doesn't result in at least a few unit skins.

That was the original plan for Strike com, even blue modules would be visualized. I don't remember the reason why it didn't happen (probably not enough mana) but if the model is still cut up into pieces internally then it shouldn't be very hard to do it.

Other comm models don't really support this as of now, would need a remodel.

There was a tiger skin with one of the old comms, so I tried to replicate the effect with the new comm.
It uh.. didn't.. really work out. Because this comm is auto unwrapped and none of the pieces really connect to eachother so there are no contiguous surfaces to have tiger stripes on.

So no it didn't really work.

But yeah I'd definitely like more skins. It's not hard at all for the Recom and Support comm, but the Guardian is hard and the Strike comm is basically impossible to make skins for without painting in 3d editing software rather than an image editor, because that's how it was made. Though palette swaps are possible.
