Not me, but I came across this and thought it was interesting to see two lobsters go at it kinda sorta.

"If someone makes that laser it's GG"

Astute judgement!

Precisely "if I porc, I never win; if my opponent porc, especially with phantoms, they win".

seems to be human to build storages without reason.
In "real game live" this is really bad for your team as it stores only metal without any effect.

I really do not think this storage fixation is healthy for the social environment.

Speaking of gunships getting shut down quick. One of the guys had 4 or 5 KROWS at one point and walked them to their death from a dazzling display of Artemis and Chainsaws...

I'm starting to be persuaded by the idea of that storages are a newb trap and the mechanic should be somehow replaced, to be honest.

Honestly, Storage in this game so often seems to be a noob trap... I feel like it should be included, slightly, in energy pylons or something, so losing your commander influences you.. Its just the vast majority of storage use seems to be such huge noob traps...

what if storage was given by mexes?
then newbs who would normally spam storages would now spam mexes
and of course make the storage communist

That would force everyone to have extra storage whenever they like it or not. Although I suppose we could have the "share bar" stay fixed when your storage capacity increases, and if you want to use the extra storage you have gained from mexes you just move the bar.

Also, in large lobsterpots, community storage in mexes only could result in nobody having a decent storage capacity, including the people who actually want to use it to build stuff super-fast (which is pretty much the only legitimate use)

I think having builders/nanos give small amounts of storage could be a better solution. You need lots of BP to make use of a large storage anyways, so might as well tie them.

Not sure what part is the "trap" though. For a 1v1 game, like the one shown, a storage farm is:
  • bad because of: storage cost, time spent building it
  • good: more resources to build when you decide what you want
Considering the overall playing style, don't think the storage was the most significant "trap".

This is different in team games though, due to the metal sharing, but this does not apply here...

Its just... far too much storage they are building...

I feel like, perhaps, the storage should cost 1k, give an appropriate level of storage, and have another benefit as well.

Sadly, I do not have any fantastic ideas on this one...

I listened to some of the game and it sounded like he thought storage was power maybe? He also had a LOT of shields and stuff that drained power. The friend we couldn't see seems to have done better.

They build far too much of other things as well (I remember desolator, artemis and shields), not sure if this game is a good data point.

It was the 1st game for the friend and the 2nd for the host so not a good data point for sure. Still they appeared to have fun and were impressed with the nuke and starlight plus terraforming.

Make the first storage cost less... then.
