Most Zero-K players who do not communicate in English communicate in Russian.

Is there any program that can translate your Zero-K chat automatically? Currently when I feel like it (and the message is in the lobby) I use copy/paste into the translator.

Well, implementing some translator would just lead to more and more people getting comfortable when using other languages than English, which could be pretty counter productive. Lets just ignore Russian.

I once translated the Russian text in the lobby.

I was expecting big and secret things and advanced zero K strategy.

But they were talking about parties and which girls they liked.

I am disappoint.

Did you all play Istrolid? In there, they have a very good translator, and still 90% of the ppl talk English. Translators are simply slow and its still way more practical for ppl who speak other languages to quickly mash some English words together, like me. Its just quicker. And it would prevent 'cyphered' speech
I think that a translator is a very good idea. Maybe contact the istrolid dev?

One thing Zero-K actually does lack is Asian language unicode support, which is the reason I didn't keep translating any of the game into Japanese.

Language support for playability > comms

Spring actually natively supports unicode - this is how we have Russian, for example.

However, it fails to render CJK fonts on windows because the library used for font rendering does not by default generate a cache of substitution fonts, and the fonts used in the game need font substitution because they don't have any CJK characters natively. Additionally, Spring does not tell the font library to generate the cache because that's a fairly long process.

This works fine on Linux.

If you possess a windows operating system with some CJK fonts installed, then you can help by verifying whether launching spring.exe with the --gen-fontconfig command line option helps to resolve that issue, and if it doesn't, then trying different things until it does.

You can check whether CJK fonts succeed to render by pasting some CJK characters into lobby chat.

Namely, this is the second subtask of ZK:3119.

actually google translate is not so bad at this.... :-)

Lassu ns darüber nachdenken, wie wir das Sprachgewirr im zk-Lobbychat verbessern können.

I like how fixing the typo in ver.1 leads to the translator dropping out content, in this cas "language".
