When players are selecting starting positions, acid water effect (the little random geysers) is not playing. It should play during this time so players don't start in the acid water.

Sounds good but these effects are implemented by mappers into the acid maps themselves.

Better idea: change startboxes on acid maps to not allow spawning in the water.

unknownrankShaman doesn't solve people starting near water with a shipyard queued.

Your complaint was about people starting in water. This solves people starting in water.

Great solution while ignoring the context and actual cause of the problem - lack of information.

Most acid maps already have startboxes that don't contain acid. Make a ticket with a list or something if there are some that don't, patching any stragglers would be good.

Maybe plop could fail to happen in acid or lava. The fac nanoframe will start taking damage immediately so it should be fairly obvious why the plop failed.

Making the graphics work pre-game (regardless of if it's a shader, LUPS, or anything else) would still be good regardless of the two above because there is no reason to keep useful graphical feedback away from the player. The current reason is technical (CEGs are synced).

Acid should be unsynced and not synced. LUPS is a particle but is unsynced so I think it would work well to achieve the goal of working pre-game. A shader would probably look better than LUPS but costs more mana.

I don't have the dev mana to figure out the technical details of this, but if somebody makes it easy I can update Mercurial.

There should be a widget that shows a warning when you try to give Move/Jump/whatever order in Acid or Lava. Or try to place building there.
I was planning one to include in Violet Rampart Generator, but didn't have enough time, and such Widget should be in the base game anyway.
