Start positions / early game - the hard choice

At the start of the game you have to choose your start position.

Unless you got 2 teammates and want to rush a early scout avenger + napalm bomber against wind, your first build order is about 150 metal in early raiders and one con.

Why should you hide yourself behind your teammates?
> If they die you are dead too.

The most efficent way is it to start at the very front, send one constructor back to build mexes and spread in mostly eaqual parts near one or two metal spots at the front.

Than build really fast 2 llts to defend your base against early attacks with fleas and a radar to notice raiders who want to kill your back.



If you have a small front like on IcyRunV2, you can try to protect your base with the LLTs from your teammate on one side and protect his base with LLTs at your side.

This would be more efficient, but you cover only a little area with this way.



It isn't a good choice to take a position near the map edge unless you accept the task to save the whole economy and go Air or Gumships so you need protection from ground.



You can also choose stategic positions like ramps or hills, but build only defense buildings if you are sure that they made cost in a short time after you finished them.

Or if you really need them to save your economy and can't build ground units so early because you choose Air or Air defense if you have choosen ground.

Yes, build that dang Lotus - it's likely you're getting raided within the first few minutes! And it's only 90 metal.

and 2 defenders doesn't help against 7 fleas

2 defenders > 7 fleas. even more so if they are not sent all at once. when the defenders kill 6/7 fleas instantly, only one is left to attack. they do very little damage. by the time the lone flea brings the tower to very low health (*possibly* killing it but not guaranteed) both towers have reloaded. If you get lucky and kill one tower, the other one is still standing to snuff the flea. Missile towers are very good.

10 fleas however can kill whatever you're building in your factory then stand in the build spot to block it and use your factory as a shield against external fire. XD

Works especially well vs cloaky bot.

I don't mean that "7 fleas > 2 defenders" !!!

I mean they "don't help"

The defenders let them pass where ever they want to go.

Ahh, true. Except that if you accidentally run a flea within the defenders gigantic range, it dies instantly. And with defenders so cheap, most people spam them throughout the entire map. Before the enemy has time to make defenders though... is probably when they are most useful.

But defenders and LLTs hit the environment instead of spam too much on some maps.

Especially against fleas it is really annoying, because they can't get attacked or let the rocket follow them a new path through trees/etc. .

defenders should be AA too, but I think LLTs should be higher and have more hit points or more range / faster aiming.

even against a swarm of fleas from 2 directions LLTs can fail hard at aiming.

I know that the fleas dies easy to LLTs, but that shouldn't be anyway
