Interesting claim; I was skeptical, but that is actually pretty accurate. Some HP/Cost numbers of some assaults: Dirtbag: 32.5 Hermit (Cudgel): 8.75 Jugglenaut: 8.33 Reaper: 8 Jack: 7.7 Ravager: 7.4 Zeus: 6.86 It's a tough nut for its cost, not a damage dealer. I suppose spiders feel a little lacking in dps but then again, you don't really want good dps on all-terrain units anyway.

yes, it is tough, but thug is tougher. ravager is about 50% more damaging, much faster and more accurate to boot. Zeus has damage output/emp. Reaper has high hp/alpha. What I am saying is that in real game applications, that tiny advantage in cost:HP efficency is far less useful than the regeneration/shield projection of thug, or the speed/dps of ravager, as it has few other useful attributes.

As Hermits gain range on high ground I typically use them instead of Recluse(I don't go Spiders unless there are significant hills). On high hills they have roughly the same range as Recluse while they also can take a beating and return for repairs. I shield the venoms with Hermits, stun the enemy raiders and go back to the hills.

Since we're at it, I always felt confused by how the manual says that assault units are good against static targets. Aren't most of them supposed to be simply a tank? I mean, if something static fights back artillery is generally a better choice, and if it can't fight back then use raiders...

Sure artillery is better, if you have time and don't fear retaliation. Yes, assault units are supposed to be tankers. It needs tankers to deal with statics' combination of damage and range. Think of Slashers: high range and (a couple revs ago) dps - best countered with assaults.

Slashers laugh at assaults... :/ I mean, yes, you won't be able to stop the assaults from advancing. But you won't get the slashers killed with them. Not even touched...
