This is sorta an Idea for PW I figured Id just throw out there.

People complain about "Clan Stacking" and how one faction or clan takes advantage of a single enemy player to go on massive rampages accross planets. Now while the faction ship drop cycle idea that might be impliment with the next game help, one big way I could see it work is setting it up so that for a faction to attack another, that they would have to announce a time to invade, to which the enemy agrees upon.

Basically as I see it, an attacker when annoucing an attack would give a time frame for starting the battle to the defender, to which the defender could either accept to negotiate. When the battle is to occur, both sides would enter a set PW room for the battle, and would fight it out until either the Attacker backs off or wins the planet.

Yes, this is probably not the best idea, as it could easily grind PW to a halt once all planets are captured, but I figured Id throw it out there.

it sounds good but as an extra or secoundary game mechanic, for instant 2 clans could agress to have one balanced battle over a planet and winner gets all XP,

Problem arises when no defender are ever avalible,
U can safegaurd your planet by just not playing and only play when u know u can will win. or no faction members are avalible at that time due to time zones ect,

Towards the end of the current season we could not attack empire due to no empire players being online most of the time, it was actualy a big even when an empire player logged on, we all got to attack them.

I think a "secondary" option would work fine. It could be some sort of "official invasion" that only faction members can participate in and gives double IP or something like that. Such things would probably increase the competitiveness - it'd be some sort of "clanwars" with both teams playing highly cooperative. I'd even go as far as saying these games would work best with complete unit control (everyone gets a comm, all share the same team-id and color).

This would definitely encourage teamwork heavy gaming and be good promotion for future clan tournaments.

>>Complete unit control

Isn't there an option for more than one player per team getting one com per player or something?

Crutch: Well thats what the plan would take into account. By scheduling a time of fight, both sides could get there people together, and I figure if one side does not show up for the agreed upon time, then the result would be the same as if they had lost the battle.

Yes, this still could grind PW to a halt due to schedule and time zone issues, but it is an idea nonetheless.

There are lots of technicalities to solve with this idea - what if the other side simply wont respond/agree on time?
What motivates you to agree if you can only lose? (100% planet)

How will it happen technically .. ?
What happens when time is up on planetwars autohost?
What happens if times collide?
How does it balance/start stuff?

There are lots of issues that need detailing first before we can even start thinking about it.

Your link's redundant, N2maniac, mainly 'cause "ololol oop". Players can see which unit is selected by other players and where their team mates mouse cursors are. Good communication and thus perfect collaboration help too. More widgets can be created to assist with any single problem that might come up.

To Licho:
1.This problem I understand could be hard to solve, especially without completely nuetral parties(Which right now there isn't). As I said, was an idea
2.This really is no different from right now. When clan stack happens, thoes on the enemy team has to decide if its worth even playing.
3.Could be something as simple as having the game run at that planet once both sides are present, to as complex as having a private room with only the clanners, and only starting when sides are equal(unless forced).
4.Probably would go to the first battle annouced, with set "no-battle" time frame there after.
5.It balances stuff before you would have less chances of a faction or clan hopping on all at once and attacking strings of planets because the enemy faction has one smuck who wanted to play.

Licho has a very good point point about the defending team only have the option of loosing the planet or dfending it and there is no gain to it being played.

im against scheduling most people have lives and its too eratic.

I would suggest a Planet wars High Stakes Server, which is on all the time

-Which will only allow a balanced game
-no more that 2 diffrent clans
-Specs can only spec one team

-Clans play a winner takes all IP on planet up to the value of the lesser clans IP holding (which is taken from participants only)
-Normal IP is gained aswell
-Planet is choosen by vote, Vote must pass (everyone in agreeance)

This would enable a quick turnover of IP

Yet it wouldnt produce more IP as that would be unfair to the normal PW server

The IP would just be traded between participants pending winner or in other words gambled.

For planet selection i propose the server find all planets that both clans have XP on and list them as available options to be voted and played on.
(so that ships cannot be farmed for use on this server)

Could make highest ELO or IP player per side being only able to vote or everyone (less coding i imagine)

Defenders where hiding all the time this season. With empire being by far the worst offender.

Rick would join a room spec then go troll lol and buy IP.

High stakes server I like.. to solve fair problem there could be a different way to pick planets.

Each faction picks a planet in a turn - first cybers, then empire, then machines etc... System could preselect the planet and let faction modify it.

Or to allow for greater flexibility - you can pick a fight and then defend 4x (to balance with other factions) .. basically system would guarantee that number of attacks per faction isnt too imbalanced.

Hmm actually if we do that it breaks whole metagame so perhaps its better to keep normal ship rules..

You could have a structure like a doomsday machine that causes all rounds to be elimination once it is built. People would want to destroy that.

Or some defensive structures would force the game into this mode..
Like defenses level 3

There is one more issue with this cncept though . .under the new proposal, you cannot distinguish ships sent by clan from ships sent by faction..

so how would you pick the two clans to fight?

I dont like the idea of clan based play. Defending planets should be everyone in the factions job. I know M6 took planets that where later switched to less successful clans. Clans that could never defend them if they where attacked.

Anyone know what the factions will be next round? If we have some kind of cybernetic splinter group, M6 could be switched to that faction for balance.

Truth be told Im mincing words. I do basically mean Faction not clan, and on Crutch's comment, well really its either more structured and less battles, or less strutured, and you run into the stupid "Clan/Faction Stack" cases.
