A version of Akilon tailored for ZK:
- no energy spire forests. They make things inside impossible to shoot.
- no destructible rocks blocking paths. ZK units can't shoot them.
- no spikey plants mid. They look like obstacles or the sight-blocking bush which they aren't.
- no bigass spires in the holes. They clip badly with terraform.
- no Xel'Naga Towers. They only confuse people coming from SC2.
- no random supermexes. Mexes are equal.
- no instagib abys. Water interacts much better.
- no reliance on Spring Features.
- comes with startboxes.

Boring geospots. Impossible to defend until you won the game, unless you spam stupid porc on the hill around it.



Oh well, I guess nowadays you just wall in all your geos so they couldn't be raided anyway. X(

Probably anywhere outside this polygon. Also if I ever started making maps for two teams I'd probably add four geospots to most of them. Actually if there were more geospots then the two near the center could probably be left there. I just think there should be at least one geospot per side that's actually worth building in the first ~15m of a non-decided game without players planning to porc there anyway, but there's nothing wrong with additional, potentially "obsolete"/unused spots.

Isn't this a Starcrafty map though? So it has high wind anyway. Good geo spots would be on the perimeter of the hexagon drawn by Skasi. It makes the geos raidable or easily dealt with once one side has enough of an advantage to win.

You didn't even designate that it was specifically for ZK... Seriously, what the hell dude?

Ofc it's all GPL so you can do that, it's not like it's against the code or license or law or whatever, but there is such a thing as courtesy.

I don't particularly care for someone butchering something I did and then plastering my name on it like I'm responsible for it.

The proper way to name it would have been (Akilon Wastelands - v1 (ZK)) and in the made by change it to
"Made by Forboding Angel (Edited for ZK by Sprung)"

That way the user knows exactly what he's getting. Now users will search for akilon and see wastes and ofc they want wastes because wtf is wasteland anyway? That wasn't a real map in sc2, then they look at it, promptly utter wtf is this bs then proceed to tell me later how I fucked up a great map.

All this to say, perhaps you should put a little more thought into things before you do them.

Edit: Really? You stripped out the gadgets because you didn't understand how to just clear the list of features from set.lua? Seriously?

Sorry, I thought asking would result in a "no" because half your work gets effectively wiped out and it was more important to get a playable version.

That said: would you mind if I reuploaded it with the changes you mentioned? I still think there needs to be a featured version of this map because it still looks good even with the eye-candy removed while becoming really great gameplay-wise.

You don't have to remove the visuals... simply make them completely irrelevant to gameplay. The features for example. Removing them is dumb. Just make it so that they don't affect gameplay at all. I could add a gadget that would do just that (it's what I do in evo... features are pretty, but other than providing cover, they are just props and don't affect gameplay in the slightest). It's not rocket science.

Yes I would mind, but it's wtfpl, there is no license to it. How I feel about it is more or less irrelevant. What might be slightly more useful, is to ask for a ZK specific version of wastelands.

  • the energy spires could be made irrelevant by making shots pass through. But that introduces a huge inconsistency with how ZK normally handles features. You'd probably say "yeah, so what" but I think that visuals are less important than people not having to learn seemingly random exceptions to general gameplay rules.
  • the destructible rock piles: a solution would be to make them Gaia buildings but I claim they are mostly meaningless in ZK (due to terraform and the wide selection of units that ignore cliffs).
  • the bushes mid are irrelevant to gameplay in theory but in practice not quite. Many popular games nowadays (especially SC2!) have such bushes that block LoS so their very presence just confuses newbies who might think that it's also the case in ZK.
  • the Xel'Naga Towers look like sophisticated tech buildings, which is in contrast to the usual reclaimables such as rocks, so it's likely that newbies (especially those coming from SC2) would think they have some larger function. In this case it makes sense to just place something unambiguous of interest there instead - I used geospots, though it would probably have been better to use regular reclaimables such as rocks.

This already is a ZK-specific version of wastelands, do you mean the naming? "Akilon Wastelands (ZK)" could be used like you suggested earlier.
