I was wondering if it is possible to host a local Zero-K server that has its own unlock and custom commander system and if so what all is necessary?

Show me a lan which has no network connection.. also hosting games locally is possible, hosting central server (which has no effect on ping/lag) not.

So ZK Lobby can connect to TASServer.jar or whatever the other java server if there is an internet connection? And would this give unlocks and commanders that people have configured?

Licho, you said it is possible to host games locally. What is the method for hosting a game locally vs hosting a game through the central server?

In the Zero-k lobby I can't tell which method is being used when creating a new multiplayer match.

Zero k does not allow that. NOTAlobby for example can do it. Note that if you do this, your game wont be visible by default to other zero-k lobby users.

Unlocks and custom comms wont work on such host either.

If you have 100mbit 24/7 machine in hosting center and want to run cluster of hosts in another location that cna be done incluidng custom comms etc.
Machine should be windows.
