Should the Funnelweb be a constructor?

Players tend to dislike the number of defensive buildings in team games. What would you think if the Funnelweb could only shield units and repair, reclaim and so on like the Caretaker?

personally, I enjoy funnelweb as a constructor, it adds more strategy as well, I only dislike defense in team games when somebody is spamming defense and storages in the back, defense isn't even the slightest op, In my experience ive never even seen funnelweb being used to spam defenses at all

The initial design had no construction capability at all, only repair. AUrankAdminGoogleFrog didn't like that as he felt it inconsistent with other units, so I added build power (and reduced it from its previous 100 repair+reclaim only bp).
But after doing that I felt it added lots of annoyingly tedious micromanagement to have a weaver or whatever near your Funnelweb all the time. So now Funnelweb can build to.

I've gotten a lot of feedback on Funnelweb and teams players appear to mostly enjoy it as it stands (though there was some dismay at the recent shield strength nerf). FFA players are mixed.

Funnelweb is terribly cost-inefficient as a builder, both in terms of build power and durability. Funnelwebs are only worth building for the shield. You only need 6 weavers to equate the build power and health of a Funnelweb.

It should be returned to old funnel model with drones. At least something which can break stalemate in game without building supwep. This new funnel is only lobster trap, porc defender and energy sucker. In field mostly useless ar support unit.

The old drone Funnelweb couldn't break porc as it was very cost effectively shut down by ground AA (you need a tenth of the value of Funnelweb to shut down its attack).

The new Funnelweb is used very badly by 90% of players. They often try using it to defend porc, but this is something it's really really bad at due to the lack of shield regen under arti fire. 95% of Funnelweb users don't understand how to use a metal reserve (I expect the vast majority don't even know how to set one!), which is key to effective Funnelweb usage (and is explained in the Funnelweb campaign mission).
Someone who knows how to use it can break porc formations very easily, despite the shield nerf it's had recently.

2 old funnel (before drone nerf) could kill detris with no looses.
One funnel (drone nerfed) was weak. Power starts when player got more then three of them.
Funnel was removed because everybody know that if player get critical mass of them then almost nobody could stop them ecept few strategies who lubsters doesn't even bother to learn even if they aren't Egyptian hieroglyphs. 'Balance issues', OP, OP, OP. So devs created even larger shit - mega builder/repaier with big shield.

90% players even don't try defend porc but their funnels just walk with them around and reclaim stuff and be useless in field situation because shields depletes from all attacks and eat great energy when recharging. Most funnels walk alone and are killed by ultis. Of course this players doesn't use reclaim for something good but just spam more funnels.
Some players use funnel correctly - shield their antis and precious stuff as funnel can stop one stun missile. Only few using it for repair and most only know how to reclaim and waste reclaim in more funnels.
This unit is 90% shit and lubstertrap and nothing more. Lubster with old funnel was more useful then with new one. At least drones could fly and kill something but now u got big reclaim funnel with shield who eat so much energy and is useless in 90%. This slow shit is 90% useless as escort for striders because striders die from old age until reach enemy line or shields will be 0. One ultis can clear them out with one shoot.
Lets be honest - good player almost don't build funnels. If they build they don't know what to do. Its great troll stuff but nothing more. And even more annoying then old one because this is more useless for own team then previous nerfed drone version. I have never seen effective strategy with funnels except shielding precious stuff like antis or singus. Even welder porcpush is more efficient then this useless spider. Dis big shield is worthless 99% cases in field and great taker of energy which could be spend for cornea/iris or metal extractor overdrive.

Right, in teams we play against only dumb AI who doesn't know how to counter stuff.

Nah i better invest in two merlins then two funnels. Its 3k metal not 1k.

The funnel op screamers didnt even try thuglaw which could extremely easily kill funnel groups for massive cost efficiencies.

funnelweb with drones was just a bad design. either useless, op or just annoying.
bad thing with new funnel was that it came to the pork-rules-teamgames-era of the game, i think this is over now?

almost all units in this game ecxel in one or two things and suck otherwise. striders are pretty extreme in this regard.

This is all very well and good until the drone-funnel spammers build a handful of other things to help the Funnelwebs deal with the thuglaw, at which point it goes right back to "no good counter short of superweapons".

Now that you mention it, it might be. I haven't seen huge porc castles in my last few lobsterpots. The nerfs to terraforming seem to have been effective.

Arguments in the form of "X is not impossible to counter in isolation so its not OP" are silly. A decent player covers for the vulnerabilities of their OP unit.
