I really want to play this game, but it runs like a slide show on my potato.

On the same potato, I play other cutting edge new games via the Nvidia's Geforce Now cloud service.

As far as I know there is no down side to getting added there, they seem to really want game producers to allow their games to be listed and if your game is on Steam, that's half the battle in setting things up.

Does Zero-K have some issue with cloud gaming? It seems a no brainer if you want to expand the player base.

As with most things, the problem is mana and willpower.

I would imagine that its a fairly limited scenario, not really something for the devs to work on so they can expand the playerbase.

Like shaman said, this really isn't just "Lol just work on it," its a bit more "lets jury rig this decade old game engine to work in an environment that was made for more modern game engines."

Though it is fair to say that you can stream the game over steam to other pc's/systems in the house, so perhaps it wouldn't be that hard, the main problem might be more with nvidia than zero-k at that point however. (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/discover/255981/request-a-new-game/) Even if this is 4 years old, they seem to be more orientated towards a more curated library, so the zero-k devs will likely not have a say in the matter.

Zero-K require only a powerful processor.

It run very well on my 7 years old DELL precision M4700. You can get 2 on eBay for 300 bucks, yes 2 units like I did last August and you can have another person play along with you XD for only $300.

USrankHootmon_Y_Knot I doubt there is any harm in you asking. It seems like a lot of work, but perhaps it reuses a lot of the steam cloud work that we've already done.

What's your FPS? for me anything above 20 is very playable
above 10 and it's still playable assume you are not doing a very micro-intensive strat
above 5 is mostly playable for certain strats assuming your ping isn't also trash (which it probably won't be if you can do cloud stuff) though there might be technical problems with keeping up with the server at that FPS

How potatoey is that old computer, anyway?

I find that something as old as an i7-960 and GeForce 1030 work pretty well all the way to 32 players. Some IGP's are in the performance bracket of that card nowadays.

Its off topic a bit, but I have the feeling that performance scales pretty well with larger cache size (L3 basically).
