ITS EASY:) tested on win 10

1. download fiddler web debugging tool

https://www.telerik.com/download/fiddler

2. GO TO tools/options/connections
FIND Fiddler listens on port: ---- change to 8200

3. start zero k with internet anabled

4. go to fiddler left hand window
find
zero-k.info /ContentService.svc

it is first entry after repos.spring.com /tadrd/versions.gz
u cant miss it its first item with page with green arrow

5. on a right find AutoResponder with green thunderbolt icon
drag and drop zero-k.info /ContentService.svc to bottom window
tick Enable rules
save its next to rule editor

6. close zero k go offline

7. START ZERO K PLAY OFFLINE :)

!!! u can close fiddler it will save your rule so next time to play offline just start fiddler and YOU CAN START zero k without internet connection!!!

PLEASE CHECK AND LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS FOR YOU

OMG I also like hake! Hake and chips is food worthy of acclaim!

In other news if you start ZK while online and unplug the web it keeps on running fine without any fiddling. You just cant use custom commanders etc

How is it not possible to play this game offline by default? Internet connection seems to be necessary only to start the lobby but not afterwards. If the lobby is started offline (without fiddler), LuaUI breaks at the start of a battle.

How about:

1) download on steam
2) set steam to offline mode

-> PROFIT

It does work offline..

If you don't have steam just create a file

steamfolder.txt

in your ZK..

Thanks for trying to help, but while I have steamfolder.txt in my ZK folder, the lobby does not even start. Is there anything specific that I should write into this file?

Remember that this all voids warranty. You need an internet connection to launch the non-Steam version because dealing with the bugs downstream of version mismatches caused by not updating is a massive pain. Not enough people don't have steam and care about offline for it to have been worth it so far, but any of them are free to work on offline mode.

The far easier way to run offline is with the launch flags https://zero-k.info/mediawiki/Zero-K:Developing#Zero-K.exe_launch_flags pointed at versions cloned from github.

When running without Steam, something has to ensure that ZK engine/game/lobby version is updated when you are online. I've once implemented some way to make Chobby start with the most recently seen version when offline, but this never went anywhere due to bad UI. Use this as inspiration for an offline mode if you will.
