I'm pretty sure the Ghosts are drawn using client-side lua instead of the engine itself, can't it just include Caretaker too?

ZK has a widget that draws ghosts for features and incomplete buildings. Normal structure ghosts are drawn by engine.

The engine considers statics with buildpower to be factories. Therefore Caretaker is a mobile unit with every aspect of its mobility removed - but it still identifies as mobile.

The engine does not do ghosts for mobile units.

Why is it a mobile unit? I have never seen anyone move a caretaker as they are so cheap to build on the spot. There's very few people that even know it can be transported as it's such a useless feature of the unit.

A factory's buildpower only applies to the units it starts building itself. It sounds like an old TA-ism, one of the things about the engine that is probably undesireable in this day and age. The engine's defaults are not the best for Z-K, and many systems have been re-implemented or implemented from scratch in lua gadgets.

USrankAdminSteel_Blue I can still see a visible decal on the ground through fog of war where the caretaker is supposed to be, a sort of 2 lines of shadows.

Could this decal be adjusted to be more visible or representative of the caretaker?

Fwiw if I could teleport caretakers I totally would. Cheaper than making conches to bring along, plus you generally have some already built you could utilize. Just plop the lamp down and pick them up regardless of where they are.

Caretaker had a ghost in earlier years but this feature was removed from the engine in the name of clearing up inconsistencies. Consider yourself lucky that it doesn't have radar wobble, because even that had to be patched up with lua after the change.
