Hover midgame?

I'm at a loss about what Hovers should do once there is enough porc to stop easy raids.
Should Hover go for scalpelball and aim to kill enemy army via scalpel missiles? What roles do Dagger and Bolas do past the early game? What about Halberds? Can they be used like Ravagers, being heavy raiders which destroy porc and kill mex?

That last thing you said about the Halberds has worked against me so many times, that I'm mildly ashamed to admit it. They can take the lotus and picket fire long enough to take them out and then just eat solars and mex. The AI will often send 2 to where the main fight is not.

Dagger has pretty impressive vision radius and can be used as a spotter for Lance. I wouldn't use Halberds alone, but mix in a Mace or two and Halberds (even better on hold fire) soak up damage while Mace dishes it out.
