memory allocation errors

After intermittently crashing with "memory allocation error", I upgraded my video from 2Gb to 4Gb and the game continues crashing.
My system has 16Gb of RAM and shows at least 4Gb free when I get the error, so I don't think it's RAM.
I've tried running OpenHardwareMonitor and it doesn't show any issues (GPU core Load).
Since the last three 'engine' upgrades, the crashes are getting worse / more frequent.
I've turned all of the settings to lowest and the game still crash.

Proc: i7 860 @ 2.80GHz (yes, it's an oldy)
RAM: 16.0 Gb
Window: 10 Pro
Vers: 22H2
Build: 19045.248
Video: Radeon RX550
VRAM: 4 Gb
AMD: Adrenalin 22.11.2

Monitors:
#1 27" Samsung C27F390 1920 x 1080 HDMI
#2 27" ASUS VP279 1920 x 1080 HDMI
#3 24" LG 24M47VQ 1920 x 1080 HDMI
#4 24" LG 24M47VQ 1920 x 1080 HDMI

Display config: 4 3
1 2

Running 7 virtual desktops. SpeedFan running on Screen #3 on desktop 1, Thunderbird email running in screen #2 on desktop 2.

This continues to happen over about the last 6 AMD drivers, but has only blue screened with the latest two drivers.
Really seems to have a problem with Rainmeter (screens #3 & #4), sometimes crashes Rainmeter minutes before the game crashes.
Has also crashed LibreOffice Calc (screen #2) and/or Quickstarter.
Latest blue screen with Thunderbird off, Calc off, Rainmeter off.

Besides getting a newer computer, any suggestions?

Can you post an infolog from after one of these crashes? Look for "infolog.txt" in your Zero-K install directory.

(These tend to be long so it's probably easiest to upload to pastebin or some similar site, then share a link here.)

Long shot, but check out this article:

You have the modern drivers for AMD, which is really good. Unfortunately, this may be the source of your problems with Zero-K.

Back at the release of 22.11.1 drivers, I and other players with AMD cards(some not all?) had very bad hiccups/lag, with bad water rendering effects and other kinds of technical issues. I'm currently on 22.5.1 drivers, and I don't have problems. I have not tested 22.11.2 drivers, so I could be barking up the wrong tree.

Just updated my drivers and the problem from before does not seem to occur for me.

If it's not just Zero-K itself doing the crashing, but you see crashes more frequently when you have a lot of programs open, you could have a stick of (admittedly older) ram starting to fail. That'll cause all sorts of intermittent problems.

You might try installing memtest86+ onto a USB stick, and let that do a test of your memory to see if it pops up any errors.

If that checks out fine, it might be time to start gazing suspiciously at the AMD drivers. But the infolog should give more information.
