Instead of having a windows default sound as a notification sound, it would be nice if the lobby audio communicated useful information, was less repetitive, and sounded more pleasing. Realistically people look at other things while waiting for a match, and it would be good that the sounds could keep them partially informed and let them know better when exactly they should look at ZK again, without sounding tedious. Further ideas:
- The lobby could allow you to silence or customize specific sounds
- The start vote, and then start vote success sounds should be especially distinctive
- Sound may be different or off if you are spec, afk or playing? For example afk plays different start noise to know you will be spec.
- A !ring, and !ring playername should sound different from eachother and other sounds
- Start vote progress sound could play a small unobtrusive sound that is pitch-shifted as it gets closer to success
- If there was some kind of min/target and maximum size for the room, a sound could play, so you can idle in a room waiting for it to fill up
I don't know if we need voiced notifications like in BAR, but something other than windows default sound would be improvement. Would this be easy to implement?
