Actually tragic. After sustained losses in teams, my elo has dropped from the peak of 2709 to 2285

You were a returning player right? I think the WHR might've overcorrected a bit. I'm sure you'll climb back up once you get hang of things again. I really recommend adding some more facs to your roster as game goes, not neccesairly air.

i win and lose about the same, but my elo is almost constantly dropping from 2800 to 2500ish since a long time for playing mostly lobpot. no big gaps in my gaming since 2011. maybe that is an indicator to change the playstyle? or GBrankTheEloIsALie

If your rating is due to bad luck, this is actually great news for anyone that is in your team and want you in it! :P
As you will push above your weight and lead us to glorious victory. :D

Was there a server reset yesterday? My rank is also a little bit lower than usual right now.

NZrankDouble_Helix_DNA : the color is computed based on the total number of players shown in ladder (you can check at https://zero-k.info/Ladders/Full , 1466 as I wrote the post). For some reason, each time the server is reset (I mean the software is restarted, or the server physically) the number of active players will decrease swiftly (as far as I got because the daily computation of active player differs from the start computation of active player).

To summarize, if you are in the lower part of blue ranks, and server is restarted and you loose once, you will probably change color.

Once more players will be considered active, which usually takes a couple of weeks in my experience and if you play exactly at same rating you will go back again to blue.

Do you care if you win or loose? I had some variation of rating (https://zero-k.info/Charts/Ratings?RatingCategory=1&UserId=5295) but I got the impression that the following affect a lot my rating:
  • playing small games in teams all welcome (like 2v2). This can affect tremendously the rank on the longer term and it's a bit of a gamble on how you're team mate will play.
  • playing when there are exceedingly trolling people (reportable or not). I had some periods when I really played no matter who was on, and it was not great for my rating.
  • playing tired / to get my mind of something.

i do play for the win 95%+ of my games.

Probably did not ask correctly: would you spectate if you think you have fewer chances or will you still play despite that? I was already convinced you play to win, but deciding when not to play (because odds are against / trolls around / etc.) can make a difference.

i spec if i dont like the map or bc of tiredness. sometimes also when teammmates go offline, but almost never because of other persons or team setup. is that the answer you were looking for? ;) (also sometimes this "real life" intervenes)

Yes, indeed. My impression (might be biased/wrong) is that if I do not spec due to some people or team compositions I just loose rank (not very often but still). I do not do it always (like when I know real life will prevent me from playing for many days), but I do it sometimes.

Thanks for the screenshots, it demonstrates how rating changes of today have an effect on ratings as far as 2 years back. Not just necessarily for you, but across the entire players spectrum. (but mostly for you, yes)

I remember seeing the right tail of my chart flicking up and down due to a particular w/l streak but I have no picture before/after.
