I suggest we make a mode that won't take time to implement and it will be easy to make and besides that will help with the balance problems or with the balance testings.

It goes like this:

!setoptions zerokmode=limited resources

In this mode you just have 2000, 3000, 1000, 500 or how much metal and energy you chose before starting the game. After you chose the numbers you can select what units you want from all factories and then start the battle.

Buildings, factories and others will be blocked, and only the starting selected units will appear on the battlefield near your commander.

I am very curious what the pro 1 vs 1 players will chose as units when they use this mode.

Everyone would chose the heaviest units they can and spend the rest on cons to repair. Either that or snipers. Or fleas to kill snipers.
snipers < lightunits < heavy < sniper

Also... are the inputs not sanitized? I just got the server screaming at me because "Im trying to do bad things". It doesnt like <<<< close to words apparently.

CA had an old mode like this, called Tactics (itself based on Deployment mode, which also allows normal buildings), but it's hopelessly bitrotten by now.

The UI designed for any such new gamemode could also be used for queuing build orders before game start. Maybe that'll be my weekend project.

Sorry for that @KingRaptor i just dont have notions of coding regarding many things.

It wont be just : Make the biggest unit from 3000 metal. Enemy can easily make 1 infiltrator and keep 200 m and e to morph com for energy cell. Or he can make easily 5 gnats and 1 vindicator.
What do you think about that USrankFealthas?

I think this sounds too much like blind RPS, you could start rearm pad and loads of bombers, you could start full AA, you could start heavy, antiheavy, ...

Limited metal could be achieved by setting ore respawn rate to 0 in oremex mode.

But it would be a bit different from the "pre-set armies" mode suggested here.

That mode would suck and it's actually difficult to implement, maybe the minimum time you would need to produce bugless version including UI changes would be... 4 days, or if you don't spend entire days to code it, maybe even 3 weeks.

The nice thing about Zero-k is that everything has its counters, so this mode is just blind RPS.

Ofc snipers beat shieldballs, that's part of the reason why almost no high level players shieldball in 1v1.

That said it might be different in a gamemode like one requested by ROrankForever. Shieldballs are hardcounterable, but very generalist. Because reactionary unit countering would be impossible in such a gamemode, a generalist army that can deal well with most units might be a very strong choice.
