It looks like this thread is going to end up derailed no matter what, so I may as well post.

The locked threads were terrible places to have any sort of serious discussion. They fell to memers within the first few posts and it isn't at all obvious that this wasn't the intention of the OPs. Don't get drawn into taking these threads seriously. Most of the posters fall somewhere between pure memeing and pretending to take it seriously to troll those few trying to argue with them. For example, @Ontheheavens is certainly just here for the drama (based on his long history) and @rockingchairrabbit has had no interaction with Zero-K for 17 months except to come in and stir up drama.

Why not just leave the thread open and let it run its course? Because they are a waste of time and make fruitful discussions about moderation significantly harder. The largest cost is incurred when the trolling and memeing generates so much miscommunication that reasonable people to end up in arguments with each other, at which point those stoking the original drama can sit back and declare victory.

Any
serious
moderation
discussion
worth
having
has
to
unambiguously
start
out
that
way.
By
this
point
such
a
thread
may
even
need
instructions
in
the
OP
to
not
meme
or
derail.
The
community
has
just
been
trained
to
meme
these
threads,
as
most
of
them
are
opened
by
trolls
to
complain
about
bans
that
are
pretty
obviously
justified.
[url=http://zero-k.
info/Forum/Thread/33621]This
thread[/url]
is
a
decent
attempt
at
starting
a
reasonable
discussion,
but
by
invoking
the
previous
threads
it
invites
others
to
continue
the
pointless
drama
in
it.
Nevertheless,
some
discussion
was
had
and
I
think
the
question
about
why
the
previous
threads
were
locked
was
answered
pretty
thoroughly
by
@Shaman
and
then
backed
up
by
@Aquanim.
