Nice round of Istrolid.

What makes it Istrolid? Little terrain?

No terrain and pure attrition battles. High movement speed so there are no real fronts either.

Each one has his blob and tries to snipe/catch enemy units off guard to get some attrition advantage.

Yeah it's big and open with little metal in the middle. Do you think 12x12 may be a touch big for a 1v1 or do you think the extra speed of ships makes up for it?

12x12 is fine for 1v1. Its just that ships are really fast, and you kinda need to keep them in 1 blob.

It's certainly not too big. The problem is that some ships are too fast (I'm looking at those ridiculous raiders and riot) and that they completely outclass land units. This means that amphib and hovers are factories you're "not supposed to plop on water" as well as porc being a waste of metal.

Thus all that remains is ships with some support units from amphib/hover/air. The slower ships don't have much to make up for the fact that they let the enemy choose the fights, so they are also a rare sight. You end up with a vastly simplified game that only plays with a small subset of the available units and strategies.

I don't play sea much, this is simply what I've seen.
