Stretch Goals:

OS X and Linux at the same time as the Windows version and release simultaneously on all three platforms at 50k (miss 20k for now).

OMG Digital Eel FINALLY decided to make the sequel to Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, (asking for this for a long time), looking at the KS video you can destroy the ships part by part, so the 3D may work well. I still miss the option to save (for some people like me save scumming is fun...)
Was Digital Eel made the first casual random "strange encounter" in space game i remember, this is good News.

For the ones that do not remember the old game (or had never see it) some SS and YouTube video:

P.S.: Still want a Flotilla 2, more Star Control, look like there will not be a FTL 2(though similar concepts game is possible), Star Command still not released.
If you know another similar game(s), say it name(s) and link(s)?

Are there some games for linux out there too?

The new game see like Linux will be a stretch goal, was game is getting funded very well/fast i think it will get that Linux stretch goal.

Maybe them will even port the old one with the developer for Linux versions, them are planing to contract.

And some people with Linux did buy Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, so it probably work good with WINE? It have a Android version so not sure how it still do not have a "pure" Linux Version.

FTL: Faster Than Light have a Linux version, it nice and have 8 Alines species i think.

Star Control II/The Ur-Quan Masters work in Linux. It have a nice exploration part, with Starfish Aliens and not Rubber Forehead Aliens only, but its not random, so not sure about replays...

Space Pirates and Zombies have a Linux version, and its random, but only have humans and zombies, so not the better example of the gender.

Flotilla, do not have a Linux version, again maybe WINE?

Star Command may have a Linux version in future, but again it still not released.

Did just find this one Spatial Flux/Quantum Flux will have Linux version, dev blog.

P.S.: if you want some good Linux game Shovel Knight just did hit it Linux stretch goal, i am think of making a KickStarter Linux games list, but i will need help...

Infinite Space (DS game) by Nude Maker and Platinum Games, Release date 2010, was NOTHING to do with the:

Infinite Space Series by Digital Eel, Release date 2002 and 2005, 100% DIFFERENT things...

No same history, art, characters, setting, universe, game-play/genre or anything, just share a similar name.

ups...

Like if some nickname pirate took amdin/frameworld/IonStorm/NeonKitty/NeonStorm/... on steam, google and elsewhere even though they didn't exist 1-2 years ago...

Infinite Space (DS game)
- 3 of the main character's close friends die.
- later most of humans die.
- good game early, boring and sad game later - though the story was well done.

sry for interrupting your thread.

Yeah, i did play Infinite Space (DS game) too, it's a nice game, got till 4/6 of the story i think, but got bored of the combat system (too much repetitive after some time) and stopped playing.

Yeah, S.P.A.Z. is good, one of the better combat system IMO (love that i do no have to control all ships, hope in Flotilla 2 you can give some (or all) of your ships to AI to control too).

Story is not bad, but did like if it was full of strange aliens (for now only have humans and the Borg/"Zombie") and things like their original idea, hope the go back to it at S.P.A.Z. 2.

RTSGURU: Seriously? Zombies in space? What the frak man? You’ll have to explain that one… At first glance, the zombie addition seemed to be more of a gimmick than anything, but that’s completely not the case. They add a huge amount of depth and really change the strategy required in the late game. Can you explain the thought process behind that? Was it planned from the start?

BOTH: Haha no, zombies were not planned from the start. We originally had many races planned including a plant and crystal based race. Zombies were just a small part of the game and were a hybrid race. We didn’t even refer to them as zombies at the time. As development went on, we had to trim the fat of the design a lot, and we had to cut a few races since they were not shaping up how we originally intended. We refocused our effort on the human and zombie races to make sure they were the best we could possibly make them.

We’ve had a few people say that we are jumping on the zombie bandwagon, but we did start this game over 2 years ago, and this zombie craze has been getting so much traction lately. We never really thought about it as a gimmick. Despite the label “zombies”, I think a zombified space ship is a far cry from the street walker type everyone thinks of when you say “zombie”. Zombies are much more like the Borg or Reavers, but SPAB and SPAR don’t have the same ring to them, also we don’t want to get sued.

I did like this idea too, probably cause i do not like controlling ships so much and i like RTS, hope them go back to it again too..

We also originally planned for huge battles of up to 30 or 40 ships. As the game got more complex, this became a performance problem, as well as muddling the close combat feel of the game. In an RTS, it’s cool to see huge numbers of units on screen, but when you directly fly the ships you need to be able to understand what you are looking at. Having 100 bullets coming at you from every direction detracts from the strategy. We never wanted to lose the skill in piloting a vessel in SPAZ, so we needed to keep a small squad of ships that it was easy to focus your attention on and really get to know the strengths and weaknesses of.

"Stretch Goal #2: $50,000 - Mac & Linux ports
Yes, we already said we're going to do OS X once the game is done. But if we get the funding, we'll be able to do OS X and Linux at the same time as the Windows version and release simultaneously on all three platforms! Naturally, we'll make sure every customer will have access to all three versions without paying for them separately."

No idea if them will get it, but you wanted to know about Linux, so there it is.

EDIT:
Only did find out now but, Strange Adventures in Infinite (the first game of the series) got open source, and some people ported it to Linux too.
