some gameplay questions

I noticed a few things, that I would like to know more of.

first what to do about "use" label spam?
it's often on a single unit that can't really do much about the nearby swarm. even trying to lure out a few individuals and pick them off will likely result in the unit dying and rage from the team, but at the same time sending it back to a larger group for reinforcements seems to pull an equal amount of discontent from the team.

second, "you didn't build any xxx"
many games I spend a good amount of time trying to build units to satisfy the team, only to hear that I had built no units of that type. are the people just upset that their strategy failed? there's a difference between not flooding the battlefield with a specific class and not making any at all.

third,"the eco is not connected!"
I thought that it's possible to tell when the eco is connected by whether the circles are over lapping- if there's a different view for determine that please enlighten me on it.

these things which often occur during battle.
this isn't a rant, I'm just curious how it can be done to avoid provoking those comments?

That's probably one of the things that even the best players do. Often people just don't know ALL the uses for a unit in any given situation. There are many different combinations of maps, game states, team sizes, et cetera and constructing the right things, be it units or buildings is perhaps one of the major decisions made in the game. You could say losing almost always comes down to "you didn't build any xxx" or variations thereof.

Just look at the grid color. If two grids have the same or a very similar color it means they do not need to be connected. Also if the grid color is blue or just starting to turn teal don't bother with building pylons unless a Moho or Singu is soon going to be completed and other such special cases.

If it helps, tere's a list of grid colors and how long different economy structures take to repay provided the grid color is reached through completion. Note that your average mex takes around 37.5 seconds to pay back.

You can do anything abaut the label spam i am afraid. Its just a thing that people do to get you notice a cretain unit or so but it ussually comes to raging because: BLARGH USE ITT WE ARE LOSEING DO SOMTHING .... PRESURE OVERCOMES US (however i am not saying that you should just ignore this because labels are spammed usually for a reason)
Its just a thing you have to deal with. Same with "you didnt build any xxx".

So, what about allowing people to only use predetermined labels? "Please use this", "Don't make defences (here)", "Grids need to be connected", "Attack here"... You get the idea.

I got the idea from DotA 2 (although I doubt it was invented there): It has a "Chat wheel" functionality, you hold a button and then select one of 8 options via mouse movement (like gesture menu), which triggers a certain chat message. You can customize it to 8 phrases of your choice out of a list (although I doubt we'd need that many to start with).

The point is that they would be easier and faster to use than typing the labels by hand (which, for most people, means taking your hand off the mouse), while we can easily make sure they are friendly (or at least not rage-y).
For "exotic" situations (or as observers) you could still do manual labeling.

Unless you prevent it, people still can (and will) spam map markers at one thing for emphasis, but at least making sure that there's less rage-filled labels because using the friendly/neutral ones is more convenient sounds like a plan to me.

"Use" usually means "move this unit where the team is fighting atm" or at least "bring this unit to frontline". In most of the cases you should not move a combat unit back from the frontline (exceptions are need to repair or having to repel some attack at the back). Units should be kept at frontline as much as possible, groups should be assembled there too. Such unit is frequently considered to be "used" even if most of the time it is not in combat, because it still provides defense, and can cover other units nearby. For units that engage enemy from safe distance such as merl, tremor etc. "use" always means more - such units should be kept firing at enemy as much as possible, because they can keep dealing damage while remaining relatively safe.

I don't mean they should be predefined or limited, it's nice to be able to put anything needed into them. just needed clarification on it's use, as @Rafal[ZK] gave. :)

This is indeed the case. Note though that the desired connection is Mexes-Energy; conneting Energy to each other without any connected mexes does absolutely nothing. Connecting all your energy to a small percentage of your mexes is also suboptimal - the more mexes there are in a grid, the more efficiently the energy gets distributes as the gains are diminishing (linear extraction increase from a single mex needs quadratic energy increase). You can read more about the Overdrive system here.

I know, USrankPowerGuy. I was hijacking your thread for a random idea.

predetermined labels

RUrankbanana_Ai did a nice label wupget with a shortcut to paste 10 predefined texts as a new label. i could not find his code, so i reupped it at pastebin. just edit the texts there to have your own. activate with shortcut+number (my shortcut is z).
