Springlobby problem - doesn't play with zk for downloads anymore

Hey guys,

I'm not sure what has changed recently, but Springlobby doesn't download maps or mods anymore. this is specially annoying with Zero-k because there have been so many releases and the only place that I can find to download is

http://packages.springrts.com/builds/?C=M;O=D

Which is very annoying as it takes over 35 mins to download. If anyone can shed some light on this it would be helpful.

Please note that Springlobby is the only client that I'm aware that is available for linux. I should look at how difficult it is to port zero-k to mono.

Use rapid system. Read here how to use rapid:

Hi Licho, thanks for the info. so what exactly does this do?

rapid clean-upgrade

I'm presuming that this means that I cannot use springlobby to download maps or mods now? I'm also presuming that I need to run the above game to get new versions manually?

Is there any plans to use mono to introduce the zero-k lobby to linux? I just read through the doco and it doesn't seem that hard.

Zero-K Lobby used to run on mono just fine, but official support was dropped because it was adding work for the two main devs, licho and quantum, neither of whom are really linux people. If a linux person wants to take it up again that would be really fantastic.

About springlobby, it seems downloads stopped working for everyone, so I assume it is a server thing.

About rapid, it is a command-line downloader system that will download just changes for each new revision, instead of downloading what is 99% old redundant content by downloading the whole game file again. So it's basically like downloading patches you see in other games, and not whole game files the old spring way.

Server actually hasnt changed at all Luckywaldo. But one of its older URL might have expired.

I told springlobby that this change will happen about 2 years ago. I guess it wasnt implemented yet :-)

Well I know Linux very well. I'm not a C# developer and definitely not familiar with the API's that it uses (I think it as win 3.1 when I last looked at windows based API's). But I'm a long time java dev, as well as c, c++ and a host of other languages.

So if you need someone to support zk under Linux I'm happy to help. To be honest, after looking through the docos on what's different, it doesn't seem like a big job. I've actually just got the source and tried to use it in mono, but looks like the mono project doesn't support the proj files from whatever ide created them :( If someone can share what was last done with mono and ZK-lobby then I can start looking at it.

I should note that I've got a project due next Monday, but after that I will be able to work on it.

Panoramix actually what is needed is converting parts of ZKL from WPF to winforms. It was in winforms so its largely reverting to older state + fixing and improving style.

I'm using the latest version afaik, v0.139 under ubuntu 11.04 (I haven't upgraded yet because of some critical work i have to do this week, will be upgrading to 11.10 this weekend). I use the ppt so it should update auto when there is a new version, again afaik.

@licho

not sure what that means, winforms is a cross platform mono based api or is it ms windows based?

As for the

rapid clean-upgrade

it's not working tonight. There's a new version out but it's not downloading it.

I suspect because of the ealier command in the instructions that states to do:

rapid pin zk:stable

Is the version that everyone is using online a non stable release? if so is there a setting for rapid pin that I can use so I get the non stable versions as well please?

I've tried using "rapid pin zk:latest" but it says it cannot find that tag... what is the correct tag? I'm trying to pin to test now to see if that does it.

Cheers.

Hmm strange. if I do a rapid list-tags it shows in the list:

zk:stable (Zero-K v0.8.13.2)

but if I run rapid upgrade or rapid clean-upgrade, both tell me that there is nothing to do. yet if i look in the games dir, i dont have the 8.13.2 version?!?!

I only have zk-v0.8.13.sdz.

rapid doesn't make .sdz files, its stores content in a special format in the packages and pool dir. It does this to allow content sharing and fast incremental patching. Try seeing if it shows up in springlobby.

pin and rapid upgrade works nicely. No need for clean-upgrade.

If you use upgrade then after a year you will have tons of old versions listed, which can be annoying. Using "clean-upgrade" means you only have the latest versions and will keep your game list nice and clean.

It isn't much different either way though.

Hmm not sure what was going on. I pinned zk:stable again and that appears to have done the trick (even though listing what was pinned showed that it was pinned).
