I dont think you need to use qoutes, the engine really is free as a beer if you dont have commercial game with high budget.

(indies dont have to pay, there is some sum in USD as a limit)

Limit is 3k$ from what I've heard. Also after this happened another big engine went free too I think, hmm which was it. Anyway, who's gonna port ZK?

More important: opengl is not continued. Khoros does a fresh start. What's this for the engine in the long run. Is this discussed at the spring forums which I don't read?

Guess drives will still supporter OpenGL just for backward compatibility.
More info on OpenGL successor.

Looks like NVIDIA will support it, even if it's based on AMD's Mantle.

P.S.: Seem like Valve did help making it too, and Source 2 will be one of the first engine to use it. 1 2
“Industry standard APIs like Vulkan are a critical part of enabling developers to bring the best possible experience to customers on multiple platforms. Valve and the other Khronos members are working hard to ensure that this high-performance graphics interface is made available as widely as possible and we view it as a critical component of SteamOS and future Valve games.”
Gabe Newell - Valve https://www.khronos.org/vulkan/

P.S.2: At least OpenGL got Direct State Access (DSA) in core features before "dying", too bad Intel Drives do not support it (OpenGL v4.5).

P.S.3: only topic i did see on spring forum was this :
