Regular High Elo/Whr Small Team Games

I think that there are quite a bit of highly skilled players that want small team games but don't find good matches because everyone is playing at a different time. It does feel uncomfortable to start a room alone just to have the next clusterpot starting without you.

I myself want to play some challenging and coordinated team games which are hopefully exciting to play and watch.

My current proposal:

- Every 2 Saturdays

Next meeting 02.01.21

- 18:00 UTC - ~21:00 UTC/Open-End

- Does not happen if tourney is on that day, in this case the next meeting is again in 2 weeks

- This is not some kind of tournament style room, come and go as you see fit and have time. The most important thing is to have some decent games and never forget to have some fun too!
(This is just to have some kind of high activity time for players to meet and play games together.)

- We would probably need a "Cold Elite" Room for that time period at about 2000+ Elo/Whr which is barely below/at top 50

Feel free to share your opinions and let me know if sth like this has some support to work

(join #topelo channel if you like high elo games, maybe we can get them to work even outside of the event.)

(PS: Feel free to watch these games even if you aren't able to join, you can probably learn a lot from these games)

we had some of those already 13v13 on ccr 2000 whr + ....
average duration: 3 -4 minutes, then 1 side is raided to death...
so much for "porc is unavoidable in big teams"

i am definitely in. this is what i have waited for the last months.

Would try to join if on, but will forget without some reminder (like the pop-up for new release, or maybe some steam announcement or something).

ah question: casual or mm-whr?

Changed start to 03.08.19 = this Saturday

Because there seems to be a good amount of players which want to join already and people are unable to remember things for over 1 week.

This depends on the players (and the playercount), if they want to we can play in a high elo lobsterpot lion's den room. But if people want to play small team games I want to provide them with a(multiple) room(s) to fight each other.

I do not know how the elo/whr rooms work in Zero-k but I think they work with both (it should be casual or MM >= 2000)

Btw. I still need Admin support to set up the room (I cant create them myself) (maybe we need multiple rooms depending on the amount of players)

I am sorry but I do not want to make exceptions because of a simple reason:
I cannot predict your capabilities as a player so allowing every player to join would result what we call lobsterpot right now.
If you really are better then the others you can prove it by winning enough games to reach 2000+ elo in matchmaking or casual.
The only thing which barely is able to "predict" players skill is the current elo/whr system Zero-k uses so i have to rely on that.

I will be there

I shall try to be there. When I get there, I'll probably play brown instead of blue, but such is life.

Please make sure when setting up the room that the rating restriction only applies to players, not spectators, so that lower-rated players can join the room (and be auto-specced?) and watch the games play live.

I believe that the best criteria is not having the top players, but being able to talk and cooperate with teammates. I don't think being restricted to top 50 is a guarantee that people will work together.

I only got promoted yesterday, and I still remeber a good match I had with corvus_corax that he helped me to 'expand naked'. Only that instruction was enough for my game to get a lot better.

I would believe that a invitation style for the people we see working together is the best way. (but I don't know if is possible)

See title, I want to have these kind of team games every 2 weeks if possible.
-> You will get your chance if you have time

Thats what Elo restricted rooms are there for. I think they work exactly as you described them.

What I proposed might not be the most ideal solution but I think it is a step in the right direction. People need to have some kind of exciting event or at least a time where they are somewhat guaranteed to have higher quality games to try to put some more effort into winning games. In my experience high Elo players are either good at micro or able to determine the current game status and help the team accordingly. This should result in somewhat better cooperation between players.

I do not seem to really understand what you mean with that. The way this will turn out is probably a chaos rather then an organized event. With that i mean that players which want to play in smaller groups can split off and challenge others of similar level. I want players to experience a somewhat higher quality Zero-k gameplay which you cannot get outside of tournaments.

-> Whether this turns into a huge high elo room or into several small team rooms depends on the amount of players showing up and what you the players make out of this event.

I try to not interfere if not necessary and want players if possible to organize themselves.

I believe I will technically qualify if the matchmaking elo counts for the >2000 threshold, but I imagine I'd be one of the weaker participants nonetheless.

I intend to show up, but I'll be happy to give up a seat to more experienced participants if need be. I'm mostly really interested in seeing what modern high level teamplay looks like.

Perhaps in time, we might even be able to resurrect the scrims of old?

mm-whr is way more representative of your skills then casual... i wouldn´t worry too much there.

Well, problem with MM-Elo is that there just arent that many players ranked, and therefor there are players with +2000 Whr that will not be able to keep up in a high skilled team game.

Also i think the rooms only consider casual whr. But i'm not 100% shure.

Anyway, i will try to show up, but cant garantee... would be so sad to miss this tho....
We will see.
