Has anyone had any issues with selecting units and found a way to fix them. Very often when I click and drag to select units, unless I hold the drag down for quite a while it does not select the units. Also often times when I left click on units 1 time it proceeds to select all of my units. This has made it pretty much impossible to play 1 v 1 because I am either unable to select my units or sending all of my builders across the map to build one solar :P I'm pretty sure its not a mouse issue because I have played other games recently and not noticed anything wrong with my mouse.

It sounds like the left mouse button is getting automatically released, or somehow repeated when it shouldn't. Unless you are playing other RTS games, it probably wouldn't show up, since most games care about when you press the mouse buttons, while RTS games care about when you release them.

How hard is it to double-click or avoid double-clicking on your desktop?

It sounds like your mouse is broken in a way that causes it to release and then click shortly after you click. Try drag selecting icons on your desktop a few times to check. You could also enable the input visualiser (probably under HUD panels -> tools or misc or extras).
