I usually go for spiders when it is a good option, and I was thinking that when you go for spiders (at least when I do) you often skip the raider phase, because spider is the only factory that doesn't have a raider (besides airplanes but nobody does airplanes as their first factory, and strider doesn't have a raider either, but that doesn't count, as it isn't free at the beginning). You could use flea, but it dies to literally everything, and works a lot better as a scout, which is what I use it for. You could also use venom, but venom is a lot slower than all the other raiders and acts more as a riot as it deals with raiders a lot more effectively, which basically makes the other person stop going for raiders, which means that the raider phase is usually skipped when someone goes for spiders.

As I usually go for Spiders, I usually miss the raider phase, and I was thinking that the Spider factory could use a raider. You might think that a raider combined with venom and flea might be a little too much, but there are other factories that have that variety, such as Rovers, which have dart as well as scorcher, or Shieldbots, which have dirtbag as well as bandit, or even Gunship, which has blastwing, gnat, and locust. So it wouldn't be so unusual for Spider to have a scout, a riot raider, and a raider.

It seems like Spider's strength is stunning units, and then killing them, (kind of like spiders in real life) but maybe I am wrong, I don't know. But if that is the case, maybe the raider would do some sort of disabling (since stun might be a little overpowered?), or slow?, if it had slow, then it might allow some other units of yours to catch up and have a chance to kill it, but slow for a raider might be a little overpowered, but maybe not, considering rovers have dart, which does a decent bit of slow damage and regular damage, and maybe even stun would work, as there is gnat, which is not really a raider but it does do a bit of stun damage, but no regular damage.

Also I think that it might make Spiders more fun to use, as I think that the raider phase is fun (as is everything else), and adds variety of phases, and it is fun to use light and fast units (at least it is for me), you could use flea, which is fun sometimes, but only when the enemy is not prepared, as if they are, they will most certainly die very quickly.

What does everyone think?

You can raid with Fleas, maybe not so good to kill enemy raiders but if the enemy builds up a Lotus next to each Metal Extractor the Fleas are already worth it, because Fleas are cheap smart and fast.

And if you really need a Unit which can defend against "normal raiders" (Scorcher,Glaive,Bandit) you can also use Venoms they are relatively fast and paralyze,
or Redbacks which are a bit slower....

True I didn't think of that, that would work except for if their constructors are the type with guns, then it wouldn't work so well but that is true.

Yes fleas are very good for some things (I saw a big group of fleas destroy a detriment once, because it had no backup), but they can't be used as a replacement for raiders in every circumstance.

I didn't need a unit that could defend against normal raiders, Venoms and Redbacks work quite well (as you mentioned), but I was more thinking that it would skip the "raider phase", because if raiders are not effective against Venoms and Redbacks, then the other person would most likely stop building raiders, and build skirmishers and stuff instead, therefore skipping the raider phase quite quickly, and the raider phase is fun (most of the time), so I was trying to find a solution so that you don't have to skip the raider phase.

Gunships are flying, and are therefore subject to stationary AA. Stationary AA has a lot of range and damage for cost. For that reason I think we can rule out anything that flies out of this discussion.

The raiders from land factories are IMO very similar set aside minor adjustments towards range, move speed and cost.

I think outliers are pyros. They have very short range, but they can jump and their weapon can splash by hitting multiple targets in a straight line, making the pyro stand closer to their targets than most other raiders would need to. One notable property of the pyro is that it can jump. Raiders need to observe terrain rules, but pyros can ignore some of it with a good jump. It's still possible to block them with a high enough wall, or have a few layers of motes where the pyros would need to wait for jump cooldown.

Giving spiders a stronger raider than flea would be to give a land factory a raider that can do what the other factories can do, but also climb any surface. That's probably why the flea is so weak and cheap by comparison. Even in numbers they quickly fall, but they can go anywhere that isn't fully separated by a body of water or void.

Complementing their ability to climb is their rather fast speed. If a target is vulenrable, fleas have no issues catching up to it and swarming it.

Let's say you give spiders glaives that can climb anywhere and I give you control of the stats. You crank up mobility a lot, but there is a pool of points you are allowed to spend for the other stats. Which aspects of the glaive do you downscale in order to compensate for the extra points in mobility?

For the pyro, that appears to have been range of the weapon and perhaps increased cost. For fleas, the cost for their speed, stationary cloak and ability to climb seems to have been their HP and damage.

Fleas can raid very well, they just have to pick their target. If your opponent goes for single and costly units, spiders are exceptionally well equipped to respond using widow+flea.

I think it's great spiders are not as normalized as other factories. Not because they're spiders, but just because land raiders are already pretty simiar as is.
