In many ways it is superior to ZK, notably graphics & website wise.

Remake of BA while not taking any of the lessons ZK has learned?

taht being said being a BA remake, there are some things that are better then ZK, cause ZK does have a few serious flaws in the late game.

I remember trying it like a year ago or so. Even though the graphics is better and more consistent across factories, zk is far superior.
ZK's flat tech tree is a huge advantage - there, you have tech 1, tech 2 and tech 3 units, to build a tech 3 unit you need a tech 1 constructor to build a tech 2 factory, from which you need a tech 2 constructor to build a tech 3 factory, and then you can build the unit - something like that. Wtf.
I feel like zk is more fast paced, which is good. Zk has more units and more variability. All BAR units feel the same. In zk, you have this sumo which has gravity beams, you have firewalker that shoots fire, you have shockley and widows to stun units... In BAR, everything just shoots some kind of laser and feels too similar. Zk also supports much more players, I enjoy those 16v16 lobpots - BAR is max like 4v4 I think. And zk community is bigger.

I don't like it for a few reasons that I won't go into detail on:

* No communism
* Exponential eco
* No unit AI
* Cheap rez

Much better graphics though.

i mean 100% comunism is shit, but 50% is healthy...
and exponential eco is nice, it makes the end game

those 2 are arguably the worst sins of ZK

Agreed with dyth68. ZK eco model is great, it enforces area expansion. If you want a game that enforces porcing, Shaman's mod Future Wars for ZK is perfect, but exponential eco should not be part of the vanilla game.

Exponential growth and no communism means that the player who actually tries to be aggressive, defend from enemy assaults and take mexes just twiddles their thumbs late game. So you often have players playing sim city for 20 minutes before eventually the enemy breaks through and they have to act.

So you have a choice between 20 minutes doing all the work and 20 minutes thumb twiddling or 20 minutes playing sim city for the 50th time and 20 minutes of game play.

The exponential growth also makes the temptation to go "just another 5 mins of sim city" continuously

I wish we could have the best of BAR and ZK. That would be a powerhouse.

dyth68 i get what you are saying, but ZK has the oposite problem. The eco is so slow and distributed that in a large team game the game never progresses past 'a few units dueling it out'. i remember the era of 50% comunism, we actually had battles with hundreds of units and honestly sim city with was never a viable strategy even in BA, you needed to make units and balance eco porc with production.

logistics is necessary in every game, and in big teams its almost obligatory in ZK to have an eco player that actually makes grid or your team will loose. the problem is that in ZK this eco player has a thankless task and might as well go AFK for the whole game wile their cons make the eco for their team.

half the overdrive that your structures produce goes directly to you, the rest is split between teams. thats the settings ZK started with when it split from the main spring community.

But games do scale up beyond 'a few units dueling it out'. It's only not true if you pick a lobpot of too many players on a too small map.

I also find it very hard to believe 50% communism was in any way better. Maybe you're romanticizing the past a bit.

It would be an absolute drag to share less; you would have people only interested in investing in eco and then saying 'I'm done eco, let's attack' and then they build their hundreds of units. It sounds like hell.

Or do you also profit from expanding. My mexes - my metal. COMMUNISM BAD then.

BAR is BUSTLING AND REDOLENT. Last and current opinion.

i mean the way ZK Eco works is

1. you take mex (this has allays been 100% shared)
2. you link grid (more mex linked-better OD)
3. you build energy to OD

the advantage of 50% eco was that once the eco is done the eco player can actually do something, instead of wasting the whole game on eco porc. currently the only way to get heavies is for someone to rush them, there is no organic progression to heavies in ZK.
