i'll be honest, i thought for a long while that i was a dum dum for wishing to slow down my game. after all, there are so many things happening in the game! I have to control 3 fronts but I only have 1 time! If only I had 3 or even 5 times the time! But... it's cheating! True gamers play at fastest speed with 320 apm!
Except this habit of benefitting "micro" intensity actually stems from StarCraft II rts. Furthermore, fastest speed wasn't always the custom: Originally, the game was meant to be played at half the speed. It is the devil that are the tourneys that said that "fastest reaction are from the best players, and if we aren't the fastest players, we aren't the best!" which we, foolishly, interpreted as "if we're not the fastest, we're bad." But that's not how the game was designed on the first day. Therefore, even in the original game, the game was meant to be played way slower than people play it nowadays.
This means one thing: People shouldn't be ashamed for playing the game at half the speed. Especially in mods like Future Wars, where there is a lot more to interpret. And if you
really wish to think about skill measurement, I wouldn't worry about altering the game speed until silver rank, and I wouldn't worry about altering the game speed in 1v1s or versus bots. If you're really worried about dragging down the speed of big lobbies or in a duel, ask them. If you are being asked to slow down the game because a player cannot catch up, please, let them slow down. (I'd argue that there are exceptions, but they're rare and individual)
So, there isn't really much shame in slowing down the game if we are being slow with game management! Don't be me, don't be ashamed of slowing down the game: At worst, you have my support, and I played the game for 2 years.
