Update Suggestion for Storage.

I recommend that the "Storage" building's construction priority be set to "low" by default. It is pointless to divert resources to build storage when you have no resources (mainly metal) to store and redirects it to more important constructions, such as solar panels and mexes or that unit that just needs a little more metal. So I have set it on my end as a "low construction priority" which lessens the attention I have to give to my economy so I can focus on, for example, that early raid. I decided to make a post about it because I believe it will benefit the game overall.

There should be some way to stop level 0's from hoarding a million metal in lobpot so yeah I agree but i don't think this really does alot as the main issue is the metal IN the storage not the metal spent building the storage.

Oh look a post about somehow restricting storage from TAW players. Is it tuesday already?

It's the attitude of GoogleFrog et al that even if a unit's functionality would be improved by making its default behaviors different from other units, if it wouldn't be intuitive to players why it was behaving differently then the default behavior should not be changed. It's the same reason why units like Lance and Phantom don't have radar targeting off and ignore bad targets on by default.

Wait, lance and phantom absolutely have ingore bad targets on by default.

In fact, way too much stuff has ignore bad targets on by default.

No amount of technical solutions will ever stop noobs from being noobs.

What is the goal of the suggestion in OP?
- Is it beneficial for a purple to set "low construction priority" for Storages?
- Is this to stop (new) players from hoarding resources in Large Teams?
- Is it mainly aimed at specific gametypes like FFA or Coop?

The only way to stop noobs from being noobs is to not be there to see said noobs. Join palladium.

Barring that, become good enough to join palladium, then join palladium.

That, or be reminded that what you have in the current game is not what the team needed and is therefore tatamount to owning the equivalent metal in storage.

To be clear, I did not have noobs or in mind when I posted this, I thought it would benefit players overall. I may not have realized this could just be me expressing my own tactics. I tend use storage in battles as a fail safe for if my commander is taken out and I often use it as a buffer or stockpile if I need to build expensive or many units in a timely manner. At most not to waste metal such as when I am in combat and not building. (I do not like to spam.) Like I mentioned, I have it set on to low priority by default particularly for at the start of the game, when building solar panels or mexes. If ultimately if it is not worth implementing, no big deal. I'd label this as a tip then.

Low pri is inconsequential. It's 100 metal. For most factories that's not even 2 raiders.

The cost to build storage is not the perceived problem.

The perceived problem is that higher storage capacity means more time having idle metal, and players complain about idle metal.

The retort is that pointing the finger at storage specifically is exactly the same as pointing the finger at idle units, making new units that are already countered by the enemy, making expensive defenses in the back of the base where the enemy is not... In other words, there are plenty of ways people can spend metal other than storage that is just as unhelpful.
