Someone (don't remember who) came up with this idea yesterday.
It would be cool that PW planets saved all the holes, terraform etc produced in battles so it looks like you actually are playing in the same planet.
It might be exploitable, but it would give pw moar epicness.

Might be exploitable?

One Singularity explosion pretty much ruins the game for the next team that plays there.

The area around mexes and geos would need to be reset. Other then that, it would be fun to try. :)

And the starting area's but even then it will be exploited

i would love to have at least a few maps to play with this.

name them eternal battle areas or smth.

i think its a really nice idea

Yesterday? Yesterday!? That idea is at least 4 years old from first PW ever..

First pw had permanent structures and droppable units too.

Offtopic but...
How about that defenders gets to save all stationary units in their starting area while the attackers gets the same worth in mobile units?
The attackers will be able to grab most of the map at first while the defenders already have good economy but no mobile units.

Also what happened to Deployment?

It took longer to place your units and for everyone to click okay and ready up under deployment than it did to actually build the damn units manually.

Problem is with picking what units you get .. also knowing defenses you could probably overrun them exploiting their weaknesses.

Maybe attackers should just get equal metal in storages.
And defenders could store all static crap in box .. and it could be displayed on website so you know what to expect.

But this should be the case only on a few special planets or some submode.

We could have a "chaotic planet" that serves as a "fun" planet with odd game modes for variety as well as a "test" planet where we could test things like this. Similar to the chicken planets we had.

Agree with skasi stuff like this needs to be tested.

I like the permanent stuff and the extra starting units too

I'd go with the concept of semi-permanent terraform. As in after each battle just cast a 50% restore on all the areas of the map (as in restore all but half-done). This would make the ground more playable, while retaining most notable deformations.

With deployment I'd love to see every player on the defending team to get a bunch of flying boxes that can morph into some static defenses early on (e.g. an DDM-like turret with radar, and a long-range TL with AA for sea), while the attackers get some extra metal for the early raids and map control. The flying box thing should have a limited deployment range (so that it can not be placed in the enemy base). This would enforce somewhat asymmetric gameplay, focused around static defenses for defending team and around assaults for attacking team.

Also a funny trick can be done as in the more dropships you send the more starting metal you get.

I was thinking about "just restore the ground 50%" too, but it'd still be crazy if players do a MASSIVE map changing terraform project. We could have special planets that change terrain, etc. though. A single planet doesn't really ruin galaxy wide balance and will still be a very good testing ground.

Perhaps restore by a non-linear amount?

Non-linear sounds interesting. However, I'd just low-pass filter the heightmap difference. That should do the trick of reducing the large spikes into small mounds, while keeping most of the softer hills and craters created by explosions intact. Also +1 on test PW planet.
