I'm all up for a few fun games of Zero-K but the last few games i played were full of com hijacks (where someone picks up your commander with a heavy transport takes it to their base and kills it early on in the game)

I dunno i wanna bitch and moan about it but i think a feature should be you cant transport enemy units... it just takes alot of fun outta the game in my opinion

Agreed, that's not what transports are for.

I hate it as well, it's got nothing to do with strategy. But other people seem to really love it.. :(

Just be happy you're not playing certain other Spring engine games where comnapping is viewed as some kind of moral imperative that must be protected at all costs.

Its ONLY for fun, no point unless you resurrect the dead com XD

of course its a moral imperative that must be protected. Its been part of the game since before you were born. If you take it out there will be mass bloodshed.

Your com can only be picked up if he is standing still. Just move him away from the transport and shoot it down with some units or nearby tower. If you don't have any units or defensive towers by the time they have a heavy transport in your base, you're doing something wrong.

I don't think comnapping is great but on the other hand, I don't like giving physically arbitrary limitations to game mechanics. As long as the engine physics says the trans is capable of picking up enemy units, why not? Same reason all weapons (with one exception) do damage to allies still. Sure, it's lame when a silly ally lets his firewalker shoot into your group of units because it sees one enemy there, but making it not do damage to allies hurts the immersion.

Of course, there is room for exceptions. Probably first we should wait until people learn to not let their coms idle and see if it's still a problem.

Why only Com Hijacking?

Stun a Dante and use a transport to get it between your Faradays.

We only need a Transport Fortress with 5k metal cost, 17k HP and speed 10.

or remove the heavy transporter and give Krow some capacity ( about 3 units? )

---

I think it is fine right now.

It would only be unfair if transporters have a gravity beam to hold your com at the position it want while catching it.

But then the transporter should also have 1000 HP and cost 750 metal too.

You only need some stunner drones, or 2 defender.
( 2 defenders make 600 damage )

A Faraday can help too.

@LuckyWaldo7

I don't think "you can only transport your own units" would be too much of an arbitrary limitation. It would be perfectly reasonable to assume that being transported requires the target's consent and can't be done with an unwilling subject - it's a transport, not a flying prison.

Agreed with Pxtl. It's actually quite counterintuitive that you can "transport" your opponents' units too.

Yeah - Krow would be a good "flying prison" :D

It would also be a attack with much more damage if the units get thrown to the ground.

But then we really need gravity turrets or a EMP weapon to catch especially your weak coms !!!

---

What do you think about it if
* It has EMP but costs about 1000 metal?
* units can fire from transport if there is no EMP?

I am a bit surprised that this is seen as effective.

The rush costs 500 and is beaten by normal early raider defence and moving your commander. As in you could have some turrets which will deal some damage. If you have a construction it can make a defender to do some damage. If the transport attempts to collect your commander and the commander moves, it's weapon will kill the transport.

But I would like to retain enemy unit transporting. Not for the ability to early game commnap as I'm pretty sure that cannot be done as a normal rush, sure you may be able to do it with many people cooperating but that's a case of one team using teamwork and the other not.

Anyway I would like to keep transporting enemy units for the creativity. There is always EMPing an opponents force and stealing key units. Or for example you could defeat a lone Jugglenaut by spamming cloggers at it to bump and slow it down leaving several transports free to swoop in and capture it. I don't know all the possibilities but a large part of the game design is creating a lot of room for possibilities such as these.

So I think the issue is new people not knowing how to respond, which is an issue. It is sort of a issue with lots of possibilities, to not be suddenly killed players need to have a fair idea of the types of things that can be done.

A special exception is a problem for learning the possibilities in the long term. If things follow generally applicable rules you merely have to know the rules and you will be able to combine them and come up with creative solutions. With exceptions there is the extra burden of learning when the rules don't apply. For example someone could have a level 4 Rambo comm messing up their base, a spy and a transporter currently deal with this just like they would for other unsupported units.

So... in the end I'd rather just yet as it looks like a meta-game hiccup.

Com hijack is definitly cool, as many said its enough to walk, never got my com naped, and you dont even need any towers, whatever weapon com has as long as it is not slow beam you will kill that transport.

yea that sound like a crappy thing to do so it shoudnt be allowed

Transporting enemy units totally makes sense. What does not make sense though is transporters disabling units they transport. These should be able to shoot anything nearby if not continually EMPed by other units.

You should have seen my face when after 6 months of playing got my comm napped for the first time yesterday - amazing experience, I will make sure it won't happen again:). You can not ban it, as it is crafty thing to do and so easy to avoid.

I liked one of the comments after comnap yesterday:

"LOL look at those kicking feet" =D

Poor coms were anticipating the hopeless slaughter...

what about leaving it as it is, but adding a warning when enemy transport is in los of com, something like when your com takes damage?
