Hi guys, we need a proper Zero-K trailer made to attract more players, I would love to take that responsibility but I need some help in aqquiring software that would make that possible. Including screen recording. Fraps is an idea however, I'm not interested in paying fees for a non-commercial game. Nor do I want to ask for donations for this. Anyone that could help with this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

I think Fraps is the best program for such things. "Camstudio" is an alternative: http://camstudio.org/ . You could try it ;) For video editing you can use e.g. "Windows Live Movie Maker" (is free): http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker

I agree with you that a ZK trailer is required for increasing its publicity...

yes we do need a ZK trailer... I tried filming with CamStudio but...

It can't capture video when full-screen programs (like ZeroK) are running.
If you put Zero-K in windowed mode, CamStudio still shows your Windows mouse pointer even if you've got F5 pressed to hide cursor and UI

I'll try to find other software

I am unsure if this does sound.

I use Virtual Dub for small bug report gifs and it technically exports avi, idk if it is appropriate though. It doesn't do sound either.

I have also used Camtasia http://download.cnet.com/Camtasia-Studio/3000-13633_4-10665109.html

I switched to my Linux partition and used the recordmydesktop CLI tool to record some potential trailer raw footage. Man, we really need a trailer and more publicity.

I use ffmpeg and blender for recording editing. They are both free/opensource and very powerful

facepalm so ZK has built-in video recording?

Spring engine does, but it doesn't work on linux and won't record sound.

However, it is frame-by-frame, so it means perfect fps even at details that make your computer struggle.

i recorded 16 minutes of raw footage, but it's 800MB in size so I can't exactly put it up online. I'm going to trim it down somehow (my camera control is bad so almost all the shots are suckish. but maybe theres a few good shots in there)

It would be easier to make nice-looking videos if all the extra camera modes hadn't been removed. I liked using those in spectator mode...

The Advanced Camera should allow you alot of that function although, as Ctrl and Alt let you swing the camera in a multitude of ways, including as if the camera was on a swivel axis.

Just enable the camera widget again if you need it. It's called Complete somethingorother, the name is very long.

This post should be called "Wanted: Camera Crew".

My graphics card does not support enough features to make as good of a video as yours would. However, I can help with editing the video.

Does anyone have a storyboard sketched out? I recommend a contrast between the huge scale of battles with 1000 units tearing into each other and the intimacy of small-scale action.

A good trailer could even show some of Zero-K's technology (able to scale with hardware, allowing players to crank up their resolution and crank up the unit limits with virtually no top end), gameplay (dozens of tactics to choose from thanks to the unit mix), interface innovation, developer support, and just pure style.

I can also play in a scheduled game.

The more trailers we can make, the greater the likelihood that one will stick!
