For the past two days I've spectated or played in games with trolls, notably loveu2 (skuttles team's bases on a regular basis, at least 3 separate games that I saw). There were also some incidents involving princereaper rehosting games before they had ended, but that was also in response to loveu2's trolling.
Two things have happened:
1)No privileged users around means no one was able to ban the offending users.
2)Devs with admin priveleges have been on and responded with statements like "oh, he is just new, let him play".
In regards to #1, just add some privileged users. You guys know who the regular, non-trolling players are. Give some of us the ability to do temporary bans, similar to the SPADS servers (first ban 300 seconds, second ban 900 seconds, etc). If it is discovered that a privileged user is abusing rights, then remove the privileges.
In regards to #2, I'm generally getting sick of the trolled games. As devs, you don't have to deal with them. Why? Because I've seen almost every dev kick or ban players who act up. Great! The rest of us don't have that ability though, and we deal with it on a MUCH more frequent basis. I get replies like "they are new, just let them play" or "we shouldn't take punitive measures." Well fuck that. People know who can kick and ban, and they behave differently around them.
In general, I like the community. I know the argument has been that we need new players, and banning people isn't a good way to get new players. But if someone doesn't start doing something more aggressive in regards to trolls, you're going to start losing your players that have been here since start.
