1. It is frustrating to play against
2. It results in mindless spam
3. It has little effective counters (a lot of which can be easily shut down by flail)
4. It is a riot, skirmisher and antiheavy at the same time

Please devs do something about it.
Even back when mace was super powerful it wasnt as much of a pain to deal with. The most logical way to nerf it would be to remove the overkill prevention which actually made it unable to have it in large groups.

Agree re: it would be nice to change hover lab so less dependant on OP Scalpel.

Disagree re: remove overkill, damaging the interface to prevent a unit being powerful just means that unit needs to be less powerful

Now it is pretty easy to make a anti overkill widget, so by removing it u would nerf scalpel for non-programmers.

I haven't played much recently, but here are two replays of Scalpel spam from the past month:
http://zero-k.info/Battles/Detail/389034
http://zero-k.info/Battles/Detail/386308

They aren't of any significant value for a balance discussion due to players not being evenly matched. However the reason I picked Hover in those cases was that I figured they would allow me to maximise my chances of winning, so there's that. Both times I pretty much ignored the rest of the Hover lineup and made Scalpels.

Scalpels also seem pretty popular in teams, two days ago I spectated this game:
http://zero-k.info/Battles/Detail/389565

Again, maybe not the best game for showing Scalpels pwning everything (all Scalpel armies did get eventually countered), but it does show they are definitely valued by the players.

Scalpels tend to beat the majority of most factories' lineups, but usually there is one unit that works as a hard counter. Some factories, like Hover, Tanks and Amphibs don't even have that, though.

This just doesn't feel like a good place to be for the unit and the factory. Would be nice if Dagger and Mace could be more relevant and not so completely overshadowed by Scalpel.

Actually, scalpel isn't as op as it is boring. You can counter it, but it became some kind of a main battle unit for hovers. In other words playing hovers is scalpel spam with a few other units. Scrochers monospam was much more interesting coz they are raiders, but with scalpels you just slowly move back and forth trying to get as many scalpels as possible.

Note that I haven't had huge problems with Scalpel spam myself, but as you probably know my activity has been pretty low in the last few months. Anyway, here's another replay as requested. Yes I know it's a clusterfuck and low average elo but still interesting to see more hoverfacs than vehs or tanks.

Saw a CCR team game today with 3 hover fac plops, 2 lveh facs and 1 tank fac. Multiplayer B389250 10 on Comet Catcher Redux Could've just been a funny coincidence of course.

how do you do the fancy linking to a player's profile anyway. most of my attempts at using search on this site just give me every single post ever made

Type: @ + username
Example:
@ _Shaman becomes @_Shaman

Also works for clans too!

@ XCOM becomes XCOM
Can also do:
@ SYNPACT = SynPact
@ RISING = Rising

You can also do battles too!

@ B389822 = Multiplayer B389822 2 on Eye_Of_Horus_v2

maybe a scalpel with an inconveniently low trajectory would be a little more interesting since you wouldn't be able to ball up, friendly fire would be a possibility and also faster units shaking rockets by crashing them into something else.
