How to use Commshare?

I would like to play a match where all players on a team can control all of the units of that team. I believe this feature is called Commsharing, and I was trying to get it to work in Chobby. Commsharing is in the game lobby settings, with 3 options:

  • Merge All
  • Invite Only (default)
  • Off

I changed the setting from Invite Only to Merge All and started the game with another player on my team. However, when the match started, I could not control his comm, and he could not control mine. How can I set up a match where all members of a team can control all the units on that team?

This feature will be very useful to get my friends into the game. I can demonstrate how the game is played, what structures and units to build, etc. while he can mess around with the army. In one game, I can focus on economy while he micros the units, and in another game, he can build up the economy without worrying about harrassment. It is a nice way to ease someone into an otherwise stressful RTS game.

The feature was merged and did not work so was disabled. I'm hoping @_Shaman will look into it. Otherwise I'll put it on my todo and fix it later.

Good to hear that it will be worked on. Is it an issue with Chobby? Or and issue with Zero-K? If it's the former, I could try using the older lobby for the time being.

Could you provide an infolog? I have a suspicion I know what it is.

It's an issue with the feature itself. The implementation isn't complete so I disabled the gadget.

Little bit of progress at least :)

I'm going to try to work on the ui for the invite stuff next.

From what it sounds like, the commsharing feature is more or less working now, and the GUI is currently being worked on for it. In the mean time, could commsharing be re-enabled so that the lobby option works again?

@_Shaman still needs to look into the lagmonitor gadget and make it properly report absent teams. Lagmonitor also needs to tell overdrive how many players are on each team.
