My question is "Why not?"

I also want admins to understand that sometimes(yes, sometimes) !poll kick and !poll resign is just a part of lobsterpot culture(but when used for this it should be very thoughtful and careful).
It's like that sarcastic heckling you can get before a competitive sports match(saying you can't win/have no chance, meant to awake you and want you to prove wrong despite the outside influence).

Saying this I will make an accent it should not be abused. For example if I ever wanted to do a !poll kick just to heckle a bit I'd just do " !poll kick bla-bla because he is a lobster and we're going down"(note the space) - it does not create a poll, nor annoy much the player in question and usually I'd try not to repeat this during the match.

I want to note it's okay(subjectively) if someone heckles a bit(it's not a police state is it),
question is - do not annoy others too much :)
I also think others can enjoy a bit of heckling - just don't go overboard with this crap ^^

If you think that you can convey tone, via text, so reliably that your attempts at sarcasm or good-natured heckling never come off as being an arse, then you are particularly unqualified to make such attempts in a public space. This is not face-to-face interaction. The rules have to be different.

When you talk about "lobsterpot culture" you are really talking about a subculture, those people that interact with you and follow your lead. You have no idea how the majority of players feel about your 'attempts at banter'. In a face-to-face sports game you:
  • Have more familiarity and solidarity with your teammates.
  • If your teammates dislike your behaviour they will eventually talk to you about it or kick you off the team. This matters because in competitive sport you play with the same team for many games.
  • Can read the room and see the non-verbal social cues that tell you whether everyone around you is into the heckling or whether you have gone too far.
None of these safeties exist on the internet. Maybe the other players think you're doing good-natured banter. Maybe they think you're ruining the game. You can't tell the difference because most of the time they will be completely silent on the matter.

How do you even know this? Do you only kickvote people who you are sure sit within your banter subculture? Even if that were the case you should consider the effect it has on people who are not the target. To the uninitiated, you are saying that your teammate is so bad that they will lose the game for you, and you are a hair away from actually starting a poll to kick them. This invariably degrades the tone of the room. Now other toxic players feel more able to kick random newbies or people they happen to dislike.

TL:DR: The argument that trolling is fine because similar things are fine in sport is complete BS that ignores the differences in communication and structure between face-to-face sport and a public game on the internet.

i maybe think people are more likely to speak up in conflict on the internet then in real life.. because on the internet they wont be in any physical danger

Also in the internet is much less common to have private or small group conversations. Because of convenience/ease and other factors. Zerok forum is public, ingame chat is public, #zk is public so it's easy to slip up and say something to a group that was meant to be said to a subgroup and be misunderstood. For example Firepluk acting like a dork with !poll resign BS/banter despite being a "subculture" as you say ends up in all chat where one person may end up getting triggered.

In the internet, I wish we could all be a little light hearted and have fun... I dream of when we'll not need so much moderation in general if we grow a little thicker skin...

And then come the cases like DaKeys to prove me wrong, where IMHO we made a mistake lifting the ban and mods did overall a poor job. He ruined many more games than he should have been allowed to -- in hindsight.

I will say that for somebody who "ruined many more games than he should have been allowed to" DaKeys accrued very few reports in his most recent periods of being unbanned. If you think somebody's behaviour is unacceptable it really is a lot easier for us as moderators to do our jobs if you report them.

Instead I was obliged to spend rather more time than I would have liked searching through his games to find out how many he went AFK/vote spammed/played especially disrespectfully in.

well, at that time i had already given up. i was of the opinion that there should have been a perma-ban without any questions long ago. this being cost you and us so much time (any you way more than us) that there shouldn`t have been any discussion anymore. maybe the time spend on banning multiple accounts could have been used to improve technicalities of bans as Sigero said. seing this guy circumvent your bans over and over and over again was not just annoying, it also succesfully undermined your authoriy.

So sad that such a good player got a 16 month-long ban just for starting too many votes.

This is DaKeys dad, I was disappointed to find Zero-K didn't have a Train factory for DaKeys to play with. He's a good boy and trains calm him down

His votes shouldn't even have been that annoying. They take up a tiny portion of the screen for only 1 minute, and no one is obligated to vote. People were definitely overreacting.
