Reclaiming stuff that is being resurrected

This is really annoying, makes it often impossible to resurrect stuff. Teammates either ignore that it is being resurrected or its done automatically due e.g. area reclaim.

Please make it impossible to reclaim stuff that is being actively resurrected by at least one unit...

I like this idea!

I think the issue with this was that it required engine changes. That being said it seem like it is worth doing.

On the other hand, you may have situation, where reclaiming something big can save the game, but some nub with Athena will decide to rezz it with one Athena, making reclaim unavailable to the team, defacto trolling them. Does not sound all that great to me either.

I think the best is to make area reclaim, patrol reclaim, and caretakers ignore reclaiming something being rezzed, but an explicit reclaim order should still reclaim it.

Is a few games being lost in <0.001% of cases because of athena resurrecting something in a ridiculously close game worth the frustration it saves in ~10% of games? I have never seen a game where reclaiming one unit that some athena is resurrecting has saved any game. Games are NEVER decided by a single action cuz games are rarely perfectly balanced.

you don't need engine changes. IIRC you can make it so that orders like area reclaim or patrol are handled by lua instead of spring, and write the lua to make those commands ignore rezz'd wrecks.

On the last half a dozen occasions that somebody has made this thread I have said that I have seen more games lost by somebody attempting to rez a wreck that should be reclaimed than somebody attempting to reclaim a wreck that should be rezzed. I am not sure that is clearly true any more given how much more difficult rez is to casually access.

Regardless of what exactly needs to be done to implement it, this sounds to me like a mechanic that will require a lot of maintenance work over time to keep bug-free. As somebody who hasn't used rez in a couple of years perhaps I'm biased, but this doesn't seem like it's worth the effort.

I am convinced that outside of a few edge cases mass ressurection is essentially a... what would you call it... fuck-around tactic, lets say.

To do any ressurections in a meaningful amount of time you are going to need a big numbers of Athena, like 10 or so. Especially when we are talking about frontline res, where majority of wrecks are concentrated. Add to this any attrition of Athenas by AA. Player that is doing mass ressurections is not playing seriously, because it is clearly a suboptimal play.

You could even bring up com ressurections. It is a clear noob trap: people want their com so much, that they do not understand he lost any value with his first death.

Therefore, I don't think any mechanical prevalence of res is sorely needed, given its dubious nature.

Yepp your team lost paladin and then one player just uses one athena to rezz and nobody can reclaim. Then enemy gots wreck and reclaim it. GG

Yesterday I resurrected a trinity and ended the game with an nuke. That game the enemy had 2 detris while we only had one. About a week or so ago a DRP was resurrected and also ended that game. Because of these I think there is too much bias...

I think this is the best solution to any concerns mentioned here.

Difference between dead paladin and trinity/DRP is that last two mostly is in deep base not in fronline. If paladin dies in its own base then sure - rezzing will work. You understand that can be expkoited as griefing? When i just buid one athena and rezz costly building 2 hours?

By that logic we should remove Detriment too as making one could be considered griefing or trolling.

Imagine trying to ress something like singularity, bb, striders units etc that are in relative safe place to do so only to be reclaimed by someone, then you ping that someone 5 times and continue to be ignored, then you vote kick that someone and still be ignored.

I think the problem here isn't the reclaim, I think people who don't read chat or enjoy playing dumb should not play TEAM games.

Some people are oblivious even to vote kicks...

http://zero-k.info/Battles/Detail/1031651? a good example how resurrecting can work.

22k resurrected and this was mostly at front

Pffft... Lol. Your res barely did anything, game was won by skilled play in south by DErankzini, USrankfloomby, RUrankFantasyZero, and little humble me.

This game very much proves my point: around 20k in Athenas, impact on game? Absolutely negligible. Ill even say that if our opponents were a bit more skillful, or combat density in north would be higher, you could never reach 20k of value in athenas (assuming you do combat activity), because at some point there is widespread cloak, Phantoms, Artemis, and other nasty stuff that completely shuts down Athena. For example, in this very game enemy employed mass Phantom in south. That is extremely likely to cause massive Athena attrition.

Whats the takeaway? You shouldnt boast about your Athena spam, because its literally wasted metal. It does not make cost by any possible margin. It did not made a victory. Victory was made by good eco, overwhelming reclaim and skilled push. But most of all, it was made by incompetence of opponents.

Of course Ontheheavens is shit talking here since he is still mad for getting banned 2 days ago after I reported him (he skuttle'd my commander for no reason). Hence he can not judge it objectively.

I saved north that game, don't know if he ever looked at north while playing. In the early 10 minutes north almost lost while south did not care.

20k Athenas + 10k Pala + 22k total resurrect = total 52k units value at the end. None of my metal income was wasted and only 3 Athenas died. Created 20k value purely out of energy. Without resurrecting I would still have 30k in units but no Athenas.

Regardless of whether resurrect is good, it is clearly annoying to have your resurrections be automatically reclaimed. Games are very rarely lost by a single action so this seems like an impossible bar to clear for fixing an annoyance. More thought is required for the interaction between resurrect and intentional targeted reclaim, since it would also be frustrating to have reclaim be blocked by a lone Athena. At least with manual reclaim the player will be aware that they are fighting against resurrection.

Someone just has to code this. PRs welcome. It may be reasonably easy or it may be quite hard, since resurrect is currently entirely under engine control. On a technical level I think I would rather remove resurrect rather than patch around its current implementation. For example, note how resurrect currently ignores construction priorities. Engine-side capture was removed long ago for similar reasons.

if something is partly reclaimed and you start to rez it does it cost metal to replace what was reclaimed or what?
