I finally got a 3d modeling knowledge and installed Spring and the lobby but I still don't know how to make a Spring game yet.
I want to learn by using Zero-K sources but I still don't know how to start. Should I start with the Chobby lobby thing or purely from Spring source itself or anything?

I don't know, man, maybe you can give me the first thing to do to make a Spring RTS game.


Bonus question: Does anyone know where can I get free-to-use texture resource sites? I believe all the unit models in this game are low-poly.

If I were you I would do all the development through Chobby. I have been using Chobby for game development for about as long as this has been possible. Prior to that I think I was launching spring.exe directly and picking the game and map from here. With a bit of tweaked you can make Chobby default to your game, similar to how the Zero-K Dev singleplayer preset works.

Just use your game rather than a mutator.

The mod upload and game mode system that runs mods at the moment can run full games. There is little technical difference between a mutator and a standalone game.

Not sure you are aware, you can have also a look at the information found at: https://springrts.com/wiki/Main_Page . That is lower level, but you could find interesting bits and pieces of information.
