is it just me or is it awkward getting the Ultimatum to fire?

I mean if you turn off auto-fire so you can make it manually fire (so it doesn't waste a shot on something you don't want it to).

A few games I have done this and actually got the Ult into position to take out a desired target, I click the target and press F. And the silly Ult doesn't fire. Then I try again, still nothing, then I lose the opportunity.

I tried a commander with a disintegrator gun and had the same problem, get him into position press D and less than half of the time he wouldn't fire the weapon.

Sometimes something is in the way, like terrain, and it's hard to see because of the angle. When this happens I just try to quickly switch it to automatically fire while repositioning it. Doesn't always have the desired effect, but better than let die without trying.

As an aside, I don't doubt that you know how to do this correctly, but just from your description and for the benefit of others reading who might not know, you need to press F first, then click your target, not the other way around.

Doesn't it ignore terrain?

Are you quickly canceling the attack order with another order? depending on how the ulti is facing, it might need to turn it's torso to face it's target. I've never had any trouble with this. Also, sometimes I use set target to set the ulti's target so its movement does not get interrupted as it's given an attack order.

I thought it was supposed to, but it sometimes feels like it just can't target something because there's something in-between it and its target, sometimes to the point of feeling like there's an thin invisible wall. This is just my subjective feeling, could easily be factually wrong.

Ultimatum will ignore terrain when deciding to fire. But the projectile will struggle against the terrain and tends to move higher when impacting terrain, leading to missed shots. It still shoots, though.

the range maybe is affected by slopes too? i think so sometimes units over a hill are out of range?

even though as the crow flies it could hit the target

not rly sure

" you need to press F first, then click your target, not the other way around."

Maybe that's where I've went wrong, I've just basically been frantically pressing F and clicking.
