Hello,
When I load a save game that I saved, the game always crashes after a few minutes. This happens on both my PCs. Is there a way to fix this? I am on the Steam version and playing the campaign.

Can you send an infolog for the crash, as well as a save file that crashes? Note that saves are two files, a ssf and a lua.

I've just run a campaign game I saved for a while and it hasn't crashed.

Another thing to try is to put the following on a new line at the bottom of springsettings.cfg (all of this is in your ZK files somewhere in steamapps).
quote:
LoadingMT = 0

The infolog is quite long. I pasted on pastebin: https://pastebin.com/raw/YQYccc0g

Here are the save files.

The crash happens within 5 minutes after loading a save. It was not only on this map, but all the saves I had been playing. I ended up starting over for many of these games, but now I want to get this issue fix if it is not happening for everyone. Again, my other gaming PC also has this issue after loading a save.

I am going to add the "LoadingMT = 0" into the cfg file and give it another go.

It crashed again after adding LoadingMT = 0.

Here is the new infolog: https://pastebin.com/raw/tbQ2MQew

The log looks truncated. Maybe infolog_full? Was the process fully killed?

Can you try for a bit on a previous engine version? Play some missions, save and load a bit, see if it works.
  • Watch a replay on the old version to download the engine. Eg http://zero-k.info/Battles/Detail/1545775
  • Do so by logging in and clicking Watch Replay Now.
  • Wait for a while as it downloads in the background. When it launches, you'll know you have the engine.
  • Close everything.
  • Launch Zero-K.exe with the following arguments
quote:
zkmenu:stable 105.1.1-1393-gfffa38b

You can do so by creating a shortcut and appending the arguments (with a space, outside any quotes that exist) to Target in the shortcut properties.

I dont know if this will help, but the same thing occurred with me after the new update was in place.
I figured that the old saves and the new logic in the update were no longer compatible and deleted all of the prior saved game files.
I then tried the AutoSave file and it also crashed. So that one was deleted also.

I do not think it is related to the Update actually. It crashed like this before also.
What I noticed every time it did was that the Campaign Mission was more then 50% complete and there were a lot of Units on the battlefields before a crash. Almost as if some internal maximum had been reached as to the number of Units that can be in play had been exceeded and there is no Catch for the Logic Throw.

It may or may not be related, but I just removed all prior Saved Games under the assumption that there was some type of data or setting issue internally in the files from those games that when loaded under the new update was showing up again. I dont have an issue with restarting a Campaign Mission that was already in progress so I removed all the saves to be sure the next time I do that Mission, it is based on the updated logic and not something that may not have functioned correctly before.

Hope this helps or points in the direction of a fix if needed.

I tried loading the older build of the game with the replay and the argument, but the game still crashed after loading a new save I created with the old build. The game crashed within two minutes after loading the game.

Here is the infolog: https://pastebin.com/raw/1Vnnw0n5

The infolog_full was not updated after the crash, and the time it was modified was still the last time I exited the game.

That log is private apparently, or awaiting moderation.

Hmm, I guess Pastebin does not like the log file data.
Here is the actual log file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nEraJQaUemMdgE_KFcbcRIiDyTJ0uue4/view?usp=share_link

Some additional info:
Happens under the new update also. Even with a fresh game.
I started one just to see if it has to do with too many units on the field.
I attempted to populate as many units as possible using all different methods including multiple factories, Athena's in resurrect on enemy and Dominatrix in capture.

What happened is that when the Bonus Timer reached the last event (Gemma world has 3 bonuses, and the third is "win in 30 minutes") when that third task triggered, exactly at the 30 minutes, the game crashed with an Access Violation Error and issued a dump.

The desktop prompt appeared asking to send the dump and YES was clicked. To locate it, the File Date would be 2023.01.28 with a time just before 12:50 pm. User ID "Vu".

Still cant nail down if the crash is related to the final bonus trigger or if the map has too many units for some array or memory space to manage.

Hope this helps.

The engine version test would be good. It might solve the issue.

I really like this game, and I want to complete the campaign, but later on the maps gets bigger and the game takes longer. It is becoming increasing frustrating that I cannot load a save game to split up a longer game session. I have tried resetting all settings and verify the game integrity, but the game still crash after loading a previous save.

I noticed in the log that prior to the crash, it will have a few lines stating:
Error: Interface:_BattleUpdate no such battle with ID: 21710

Some time with different ID.

Also I see these lines in the log when saving the game: (I got an error when I tried to post the following in this forum)
https://pastebin.com/raw/p78nBAWv

Are these related to the crash?

Ditto
Says something about skirmish ai, max int reached and some things about updating handler.lua
No idea on what I should do.
Also, how should I add my infolog?

Upload it someplace where it would be readily available for download and link to it in your post.

I have pushed an update that rolls back an AI change. The AI could definitely cause a crash like this but I'm not sure why it would be infrequent enough to not come up with testing. Try it and see if it helps.

I tried loading a few new save games after the update, and the game did not crash once. I will test out some more to see if it is indeed fixed. Thank you for your help.
